“All her days were written in Your book, before one of them came to be” Psalm 139
My mother in law peacefully passed away last night. We are so glad that she is out of pain and in a much better place. Yesterday, even while being so near death, she was able to communicate her love for all of us. But we miss her. We are so thankful for the last few months. Lots of memories and special times. Most of all, we are grateful for her life and all that she meant to us and all that she invested in us. We are grateful to God for all of the time we had together and trust in His loving kindness.
“All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

I’m praying for your family – while there is great comfort in knowing she lived such a full, rich life it doesn’t make the transition any easier.

I am so sorry for your loss. May your entire family feel the arms of our loving Savior surrounding each of you during this difficult time of “good-bye for now”. Praise God it is only for a season and you will have eternity with her. Sending love and prayers from South Carolina.

Although I never met your mother-in-law personally (I praised her influence in my life 2 summers ago, the same night your father-in-law generously gave my husband, a young pastor in Texas, a copy of Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology, as a parting gift after encouraging us at a friend’s church), she is one of the primary reasons I have been able to stay the course for 16 years of trusting God to be involved in the decisions we made about family life. I am grieving her “goodnight” as Joshua referred to her passing as, and pray for each of you often. Our 8 passionate children (5 of whom are now fully devoted followers of Christ, thanks in part to your in-laws, your husband and the twins, as well as Joshua and Shannon) and my ability to manage this busy household, are part of the fruit of her investment into mainstream Christian culture. To God be the glory for her precious heart for helping homemakers live lives of balance and joy.
I also look forward to enjoying your blog with my older culinary artsy daughters, as nourishing foods on a budget is a big part of our world, as well.
When is your baby due? We’d love to pray for your pregnancy and birth…

Sono was such an amazing woman of God. Even though I didn’t know her as well as many did, she had a large and wonderful impact on my life. She had a passionate love for her Lord and her family, and for just about everyone she met (it seemed to me). She lived a very profound life. I know you and your husband must miss her terribly. We are very sorry for your loss. You, your husband and the rest of the family will be in our prayers.

Right now, the changes in your lives, are probably dominant. When the time is right for you and your loved ones, those beautiful memories will keep Sono with you, at all times.
May all her goodness shine on you.

What a beautiful write up–brought tears to my eyes. Perfect verse. I love the quote from CS Lewis. May God continue to bring healing to your family. (I read/follow your blog regularly but don’t comment much.)

Kimi, I am so glad your mom in law is no longer in pain but grieve for the physical loss of her presence you all are experiencing. My mom and dad died a few years ago and I remember that raw feeling of missing being able to hug and kiss them and just hear their voices.
I wish her peace on her journey onward and upward!
