A while back I asked you, my readers, for advice for a friend with a child who was experiencing severe eczema. You all had such helpful advice. Thank you. It was helpful (though slightly overwhelming) to hear the many causes of eczema and it was helpful to realize what a complicated issue it can be. But your success stories in fighting it were encouraging.
Several of you mentioned the hazelwood necklaces from hazalaid.com. Enough of you mentioned it that my curiosity was piqued. So I started reading. I was surprised at the reviews of these products with parents claiming that the necklaces helped their children with skin problems, teething, and other issues. The more I read, the more I realized that maybe I shouldn’t laugh at the idea of a necklace helping eczema (which I admit……I did at first). Since they weren’t expensive, I thought it was worth a try. I mean, it’s a whole LOT easier to wear a necklace than it is to cut out all known allergies to mankind (or so it can feel like when fighting issues like eczema).
I contacted the owner of hazelaid.com and explained that I was interested in trying out her necklaces. She kindly sent some necklaces for my family to try and sent some at cost to a couple of friends as well.
Here is Hazelaid’s back story.
Hazelaid was born when our family was introduced to the amazing healing properties of hazelwood products. These necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry made with pieces of wood from the hazelnut tree have the unique property of absorbing the excess acid produced in our bodies when it is in contact with our skin.
We first heard about this jewelry when our third child was very little and was suffering from severe eczema. We had tried many different things to alleviate her symptoms and nothing really seemed to help. A friend told us about how her son’s severe and painful acid reflux had been dramatically helped by wearing a hazelwood necklace and that it could help with our daughter’s eczema since the root cause of both is often related to excess acidity in the body. We were skeptical but intrigued. We decided we had nothing to lose by giving it a try. Within a couple weeks of wearing the necklace and using the hazelwood zinc oxide ointment, her skin was dramatically improved and she was also spitting up a lot less. We were amazed! After reading all the testimonials about these wonderful products, we were no longer surprised by our experience…these results seemed to be the norm, and then some!
Hazelwood’s healing property is linked to it’s ability to help make the body alkaline, eliminating acidic caused health conditions, such as eczema. I’ve actually never heard of the connection of an acidic body and eczema before. And I don’t really understand how the hazelwood works, but it does seem to work for many people and that’s the important thing. When I first told my husband about these necklaces…. (okay, back up. The first time I told him about hazelwood necklaces, we were sharing mirthful comments on the topic)….when I was telling him about the results that many people have using these products my husband’s common sense response was, “It doesn’t cost much to try. It’s much easier than anything else to do. Why not give it a try?” My thought, “If it doesn’t work, you’d still have a cute necklace”.
So, I kept reading. I also noticed that Hazelaid carried another type of necklace made out of baltic amber. This necklace especially interested me. How it works made sense to me.
Baltic amber is not a “stone” but a natural resin. As it warms with the body’s natural temperature, Baltic amber jewelry releases healing oils containing succinic acid which are absorbed into the skin and then into the bloodstream.
Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of succinic acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and its presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways.
Commonly known as “teething jewelry” in Europe, Baltic amber has been a natural remedy for pain relief for hundreds of years.
Amber is also known to reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach and to fight irritation, infections and respiratory disease as it dramatically improves the body’s immunity. Natural amber beaded necklaces are a completely non-invasive remedy for side effects associated with teething, such as lack of appetite, redness in the cheeks, swollen gums, diaper rashes, upset tummies, earache, fevers and colds. Baltic amber is also a natural analgesic that will calm your child and is recognized by allopathic medicine specialists as antispasmodic and anti-fever. Many adults report improvement of arthritis discomfort and carpal tunnel pain in their hands when wearing amber on the wrists. hazelaid.com
I noticed in the testimonial section on their website that the baltic amber necklaces helped some people with headaches, which I was then experiencing. This is also the type of necklace used for teething pain. I noticed in a couple of Amazon reviews that some parents were so enthusiastic that they felt that every baby should have a baltic amber necklace for teething pain!
Who tried the necklaces:
Me: Baltic Amber (for headaches)
Elena (my 4 year old): A mixed baltic amber and hazelwood necklace for general immune boost
Aria (my infant) Baltic Amber for teething
Wes (Nephew): Hazelwood necklace for eczema
Friend’s daughter: Hazelwood necklace for eczema
Me: I started wearing my baltic amber necklace non-stop, only taking it off for a shower. The first week I didn’t have any headaches, but that could have just been chance. I continued to wear it with no headaches. Then one day I had on a scarf and I got a headache. I was talking to my sister and said, “Well, so much for this necklace keeping my headaches away. I am definitely getting one.” I then reached up to to my neck and felt under my scarf…….no necklace. The one day I had gotten a headache, I had forgotten to put my necklace on after my shower! It happened once again. I thought I had it on, got a headache, and then realized I never put it back on after my shower. I then went through a week or two of very little sleep and got a few mild tired headaches with the necklace on, but they seemed much more mild then normal. Then after all of my recipe testing and feeling better, I stopped getting headaches altogether, and didn’t need to to depend on the necklace helping me. Bottom line: It did help me personally from getting headaches or from having as severe of headaches.
Elena: We got her necklace just as an overall immune booster (and I knew she would love it because it’s cute). She thought that it was very pretty and does love it. I thought that it was neat that she could have a piece of jewelry that could have beneficial properties! Apparently even jewelry can have health benefits.
Aria: I wanted to try the baltic amber necklace for her teething as I noticed a few reviews from parents saying that it not only seemed to help with teething pain, but also with drooling. Aria was drooling massively at the time. She was going through bib after bib all day long. It was ridiculous. So I was hopeful that the necklace would help. In our case, she still drooled when wearing the necklace. It did seem like she wasn’t drooling as much sometimes, but she was still drooling. I also realized that she was the wrong baby to see if it helped with teething pain because she has never really exhibited any signs of teething pain that were obvious. I think that while her drooling was mostly related to teething, she also just likes to drool and seems to purposely drool. So it wasn’t necessarily related to teething or pain in teething. So in her case, I felt like it was too hard to distinguish whether it helped her or not.
Wes: Wes has dealt with eczema on his face for a while now. My sister has been able to pin point several foods that bother him and make it worse. However it was still there. The hazelwood has significantly helped him. It’s pretty exciting! He will still break out if he eats something that bothers him, but most of the time his face looks great! A success for sure.
My friend: Unfortunately my friend who has a daughter with more severe problems didn’t notice anything significant. It is true that not everyone with skin issues respond, most likely, I am told because their root issues are not acidic based. So that could be true for her daughter. She also wasn’t positive that she gave it a long enough trial, but it seems most likely that the hazelwood in her case will not have the results it did for my nephew.
All in all, while obviously not a cure all, we had enough results using these products that I felt I would like to bring them to your attention. Perhaps some of you could be helped by them too! If any of my readers have had experience using these products, I would love to hear your results!

Would love to try the hazelwood necklaces for my son’s sensitive skin issues. He has had dandruff since shortly after birth, still has it at 2 1/2 and I would love to try anything on it! I noticed they also sell an ointment.

My five month old is teething. I really like the idea of helping him with any discomfort naturally instead of with drugs like teething gel. I have a friend whose toddlers wear your necklaces and swears by them. I would def give it a go and even get some for my older children, myself and my husband as immune boosters. 🙂 Added bonus, they’re really cute.

I would love to win. I already know of the benefits of Baltic Amber. I had read of the pain relieving qualities and I thought it was worth a try because my daughter has a congenital hip deformity that causes so much pain she had to be on daily pain medication and would wake every night crying from agony. She is in therapy and will, sadly, eventually need surgery. She is only 4. The first time I put a Baltic Amber necklace on her she was 3. I told her it was pretty gift because I did not want to get her hopes up that her pain would go away. After just several days she was sleeping through the night. We were able to wean her off her meds and only need Motrin occasionally! We were thrilled with the results…..until she lost the necklace. We haven’t been able to find it and frankly we are flat broke paying for her therapies and my son’s special needs interventions. I need to get another necklace for her because she is once again waking in pain and taking more and more pain meds 🙁 This would be a HUGE blessing for our family and more importantly for my daughter. Thank you for the chance.

I am very interested in getting a necklace for my daughter, she has been working with young people and seems to pick up every ailment such as colds, ear infections, sinus colds and coughs, she also has headaches constantly. I wonder if it might help even just a little. Thanks.

My daughter currently wears a hazelaid necklace for teething, but I’d like to get one for my son’s mild eczema! Love the Amber necklace we currently have!!

I have the baltic amber teething necklace for my 7 month old son and I love it. He wasn’t a bad teether to begin with, but with the necklace you’d never know he was teething (except for the drool, I haven’t noticed any difference with the drool). My husband just broke out in eczema for the first time, I’d like to try the hazelwood on him…

I have purchased from Hazelaid for my daughter for teething and really want to buy myself a necklace to help with stress related headaches and neck paid. Their products are amazing!

My husband just had his second surgery in three months (thyroid tumor and pituitary tumor) and needs to detox from anesthesia as well as get his body back into alignment. I have arthritis in almost every joint and would love to see how they work on arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. My sister in law uses them for her children to help digestion and teething, but I’d like to see if they work on these non-digestion/teething disorders, too.

I would love to try one of the amber necklaces for my son! He experiences horrific teething pain and spikes a fever every time as well! I really hope this would help him, that would be awesome! My poor guy is so miserable each and every time!

My husband wears baltic amber from Hazelaid to help with his knee pain and headaches. Since day one, he has experienced relief!!! We have a baby boy on the way, and would love to get baltic amber for him as a preventative teething measure! Thanks so much!

Since I started doing Ashtanga yoga regularly, I’ve been experiencing some wrist pain in my right hand, so I’d love to see if wearing an amber bracelet regularly could help my pain. Plus, it’s so beautiful.

I found this site via hazelaid’s Facebook page…I have a hazelwood necklace for myself and my daughter….we both get skin issues….and I want to get one for my son whose multiple food allergies with cause him gut issues rather than skin!
Laura
I would love to try this for my eczema! I’m on GAPS right now, and it’s helped, but not completely. This would be really nice to have.
Jody
I would love to try this necklace for my son. He has severe acid reflux and eczema. I would also buy one for me and my daughter, just because they are cute and for the immune boosting effects!
Amber S
I would love to try this because I have so many aches & pains that maybe it would help instead of taking tylenol/medicine!

I just ordered and received my Baltic Amber necklace ( for headaches) but my husband won’t let me have it until the 24th on my birthday. I am so convinced it will help with my ailments that I really want to get one for my grandma’s arthritis and one for my mom’s headaches. My grandma is getting so bad she rarely leaves the house because she has 2 steps and finds it hard to get up and down them. My mom has such debilitating headaches she stays in bed for days at a time. While I know these most likely are not miracle workers, if they could alleviate some of the pain and make things more bearable it would be so worth it. I have considered just buying them but I am laid off right now so I just can’t afford them.
Selena
My entire family (myself, husband, 2yr son, 2month daughter)is wearing the Hazelwood/Amber necklaces now but I would love to get a Baltic Amber necklace for when my 2 month old daughter starts teething.

I have a 7 month old who suffers every night with gas and teething pains. He co-sleeps with us and will wake up calling out for comfort. He nurses at least every hour to two hours for comfort as well to relieve his pain and I really want to try one of these to see if he can get relief from his pain and we all can get a good night sleep. Thanks so much! “Quest for truth in Missouri.”
Becky
I would like to try that with my daughter who is 8 1/2 months old and still no teeth but tends to rub her face a lot as if she is getting teeth. I would also like it to try for my nephew who has had eczema since about birth and is 7 years old now.
Lauren
I just ordered a baltic amber/hazelwood necklace for my 3-month-old daughter for drooling, pain, and little skin rashes she’s been getting since birth. I wanted to get one for my husband and myself, but couldn’t afford all 3 at once!! My husband gets severe heartburn/acid reflux it seems almost every day now! I read that these necklaces can help with that since they make the body more alkaline. I’ve gotten headaches and migraines since I was a little girl, and although I didn’t get them throughout most of my pregnancy, they’re back. 🙁 The doctors have tried absolutely everything with me to “cure” my recurring headaches, but nothing works, or it works only for a time before my body seems to become immune to it. Anyway, what I have read about baltic amber and hazelwood makes sense, and if it helps my family, I’d be Hazelaid’s biggest promoter!! (I’ve got plenty of family and friends who could benefit from this if they see it works for us!)

Anything that would help my lifetime eczema would be appreciated! And an imune boost wouldn’t hurt at all.

I would love to try an amber necklace because I am 42 yrs old and have had tooth pain for 1 1/2 mos now from TMJ flare-up. I am not comfortable continuing the Ibuprofin recommended for long term. Two x-rays from the orthodontist, a chiropractic adjustment, and massage have shown nerve pain/inflammation from TMJ. If it helps with baby teething pain, is it possible it could help with TMJ? Would love to try!

Sorry if this is a duplicate, my computer was having trouble submitting. I am 42 yrs old and would love to try the amber teething necklace for my TMJ pains. I have had tooth/jaw pain for 1 1/2 mos. This time around the TMJ symptoms seem to be lasting longer. My dentist has ruled out tooth issues twice with x-rays and thermography, chiropractor and massage therapist confirm TMJ related pain. I do not like being on Ibuprofin this long. If it helps with baby teething pain, maybe it would help with tooth pain caused by nerve irritation/inflammation related to TMJ? Would love to try!

We’ve been wanting to buy a hazel wood and Baltic amber necklace for months now. We have two boys (Noah 37 months, Benjamin 14 months) who have some very bad teething and emotional swings. Benjamin has a constant diaper rash that bleeds. Noah is covered in some form of eczema- head to toe. We’ve heard the miracle healing powers of these necklaces, but like many others, our budget is stretched so far that we can not purchase one. Even if we were to share it between the boys. With my husband leaving the country soon for over a year, we will have practically no budget at all. I believe that the certificates would allow me buy the necklaces and would in turn, make being a temporary single mom a bit more bearable.

I would like to try it for my niece, who has terrible eczema and needs frequent hydrocortisone treatments to keep it at bay . . . I’d love a less “medical” approach.

I suffer from severe migraines and I am desperate to try some natural healing rather than taking medicine everyday. I have heard great things about Baltic Amber necklaces and would love to try it!

I have had eczema since I was young and steroid ointments always make me feel weird and sick with minimal actual success at control. I am excited to try out this product and am glad to see some good manly looking styles.

My husband is struggling with reflux and other issues related to that. I’d love to try one of these for him.

I’d like to give a hazelwood necklace to my friend who has issues with body pH. I’d also like a baltic amber necklace for myself, because I will give birth to my first child soon and I think it will be helpful for him for all the reasons you mentioned. Thanks Hazelaid for your generosity 🙂
Melissa
I’m always looking for natural remedies and would love to try these!

Would love to try on my daughter for some mild eczema issues she’s having. My son also had eczema, and it has mostly disappeared. But it would be interesting to try the necklace on him if he has future issues with eczema- it comes back once in a while.

I would love to try a necklace for baby #2 who is due end of Sept. #1 suffered with a lot of teething discomfort and drooling…and I never knew about these necklaces. If #2 is anything like her brother, I’d like to help prevent or even just lessen her discomfort. And I’m big time into natural health, so found it so difficult to alleviate #1’s discomfort in a way that I felt okay about.
🙂

Honestly I am dying to try this necklaces. My package was lost in the mail. I already payed 37 bucks. Now I cannot afford to pay more =( I have 2 babies that have eczema. 2 year old has it on his cheeks. So I do not know what I will be able to do to get it for them , but I would absolutely love to try and see if it will help my 2 year old son and 2 moths old daughter with her reflex =)
Monique
I’d love to try one. I have some skin issues lately that I am not sure how to resolve?? Thanks.

I’d love to try one for my and for my baby’s rashy skin!

My 12 mo. old has no teeth and seems to be on the edge. I’ve wanted to try a teething necklace for some time.

for my daughter – she has extremely dry & sensitive skin & she loves necklaces so this would be a nice thing to try rather than all the creams the docs want to try!
