Please join me for a Nourishing New Years Resolution Carnival. Read the details here!

It’s time to share your frugal and nourishing tips and recipes! Where do you shop for quality food at a lower price? What recipe saves a penny? How do you balance a budget with nourishing food? Share here.

Please read through the three simple rules for those participating. This helps keep the quality of our carnival. Please read them through before linking and thanks again for your continued participation.

1) No linking to giveaways or promotions for affiliates or sponsors. One thing that I’ve noticed increasingly on Pennywise Platter is that I am getting more and more promotional pieces for affiliates or sponsors and a lot of giveaways. I’ve decided to keep Pennywise less “commercial” and more in tune with the spirit of the carnival by not allowing these links anymore. There was nothing wrong with those of you who linked to them, I just think that it will protect the integrity of our carnival better without them. Plus, it makes our links valuable in the future as well. A link to a giveaway three months old isn’t going to be worth browsing in three months time, but a link to a recipe for a frugal soup would be. I will be deleting any giveaway links or promotional links.

2) Keep the ingredients “nourishing”, such as whole grains, meats, vegetables, legumes, unrefined salt and sugars, chicken, etc. I am not going to be an ingredient police every week, but if there is a link to a post that is obviously not filling any of the criteria for healthy (for example, a white flour, white sugar birthday cake), I will delete that link. However, feel free to post vegetarian, vegan, raw, low-carb, etc.

3) Link back to the carnival This is common carnival courtesy. And more then that, it helps build the community of the carnival as you are sending your readers to others participating. And please, as a blogger, check out other’s posts and leave a comment! I know that we would all love to hear from each other.

How to link up to your post? Read below.

I posted the recipe to the honey garlic sauce I made last night. It is good and not heated much yet is still thick and good! Much better (and cheaper and healthier!) than the store bought stuff 🙂

Here’s a sweet potato dish that even my vegetable-hating younger sister ate with (relatively) few complaints. Thank you!

We’ve shared our “one ingredient, two step cracker” recipe. It’s got to be the easiest recipe ever- and it’s allergy-free except for dairy.

I am the mother of ten children and I have worked hard to keep a real food diet for my brood with an all too real budget. I feed twelve people for around 87 cents a meal per person. Check out my ideas!

Thanks for your post! I really enjoyed reading your “hints”. You spend a lot of time being frugal – which is very admirable, especially since you have 10 kiddoes! It is good to hear that there are still people who can out there – good for you! I hope to do more of it in the coming months, I kind of got out of the habit as my children are mostly grown now, but I really miss the flavor and I’m frustrated with all of the “unknowns” that go into my food.

I’ve been copying the Chinese and cleaning my house like mad this past week–soooo behind in posting! I am catching fleas at the moment–my last task to get ready to usher in the New Year (well I should try to get my inbox clean too I suppose-arggg). I am lucky fleas don’t go for me they go for my man, so I am not as concerned about them as I should be in general, but I have a good system to catch them –by putting a candle in a dish of water in a dark room–so far I caught three but one got away when I was trying to squash him, so I hope I catch him again.

Hope you all have a great New Year and are all planning your New Year’s resolution posts! Don’t forget to add making homemade root beer into your list of resolutions – it will be worth it, especially if you add homemade vanilla ice-cream in for a good ole fashioned root beer float, mummmmhummm.

Growing your own food isn’t always cheaper on paper, but its value is priceless in knowing what really is in it from start to finish. Sharing about my new piggies.

I don’t think #5, Watergate Salad, could be classed as real food with instant pudding and Cool Whip in it. Now if you made your own homemade pistachio pudding (anyone have a recipe?) and real whipped cream that would be different.

A delicious recipe for homemade refried beans with a jalapeno twist! You can used pinto beans you’ve boiled and softened or a can of pinto beans – whatever time frame works for you! These are worth celebrating in 2011! http://sacredbee.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/jalapeno-refried-beans/

Oops! I forgot to comment. 🙂 Happy New Year to you all! I’ve enjoyed checking out all the recipes and ideas as I move my family toward a more nourishing diet. It’s not easy to change the menu up with so many picky eaters in my home, but I’m determined to do it this year! Blessings!

Ah silly me I added my name instead of the name of the dish– It’s German-inspired Roasted Pork Trotters, with a Braised Red Cabbage and Mustard Mash. Altogether really cheap yet nourishing and delicious! I hope everyone gets inspired to experiement cookign with the lesser known cuts of meat!
