It’s time for our yearly nourishing resolutions carnival! As I mentioned before, I love the start of a new year as it has always been a reminder to evaluate the last year and start fresh with new hope for a new year. I hope that you will join me in making some nourishing resolutions. In my last post I gave four tips for making successful resolutions. Check it out and then either leave your resolutions in the comment section of this post, or, if you are a blogger, link to your resolutions post on your own blog.
Now for my resolutions….
I mentioned in my last post that there has been some stressful situations recently in my household that has caused (along with the stress) a lot of extra work and some upheaval for me. This has been a real challenge for me, especially with a newborn. So for me I have some interesting challenges coming into this new year. I have extra work ahead of me, a newborn, and I find that I have exhausted myself. I have had some fairly major adrenal issues in the past, and once again I find myself in a place of needing to rebuild. Getting enough rest and good food is crucial. My family is also in need of the same things. As I have considered what I needed to adjust in our daily lives, I realized I have a lot to consider. So keeping in mind my time and energy limits as well as my and my family needs, here are my resolutions.
Basically I am wanting to get the most nutrition with the least amount of effort. This will be accomplished by simplifying where possible, and using slow cookers and one pot meals.
Here are a two of my specific goals.
1) This next month eat a low sugar (limited fruit, limited sweetener, limited starches) and only raw dairy diet. My four year is starting to have some issues because I have been more lax with our usual standards in this area.
2) Create one new nutrient dense meal (liver, clams, oysters, salmon, etc) a month, and create one new “one pan” dinner a month, both of which we would want to eat on a consistent basis.
3) Besides those two specific goals, I am going to keep striving to keep up what I always try to do, such as making bone broths, eating grass fed beef and whole grains, and healthy fats. While in past years, I have used my resolutions to spur me on to learn many new skills, this year I feel a shift towards resolving to keep what I’ve learned in practice.
(Because of this blog and some other projects, I have other food goals for the year, but these are the goals specific for the welfare of my family. If I get to my other food goals for the year, they are icing on the cake!)
Now it’s your turn! Leave your comments below or use the Mr. Linky to share your goals for the new year!

I’m learning more and more about ways to improve my health and my blog! Join me as I face the new year with courage.
Lindsey @ Enjoying Healthy Foods
We are continuing to improve our eating styles, as I have to cut out all dairy and grains because of intolerances. I am also taking time each day to count my blessings and writing down something everyday!

Being grateful everyday is good for the soul and our health. : -) It’s definitely a practice worth keeping.
Lindsey @ Enjoying Healthy Foods
I am grateful everyday… Just don’t write things down!
I would love to look back and remember cute things my boys say!!! 🙂 Dated and quoted correctly!
Thank you for posting the carnival

I understand the need for optimal nutrition and sometimes…minimal work. I’ve found (and I’ve posted this weeks on my blog) that planning my menus for all 3 meals and different snacks for the kids for the whole week helps me make sure we’re getting the most nutrition for a well rounded week…and I’ve learned to use 1 or more crockpots to save me time, energy and work as well as my pressurer cookers….juicing, kefir smoothies with fruit, kombucha and mugs of homemade broth (along with mostly sugar free and gluten free) are my best defenses for good health. (I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia…I have come to accept that these cannot be “cured” completely….but can be helped greatly with proper nutrition, rest and moderate stretching & exercise) God bless you and your family in this new year…He is faithful to help you meet these challanges and to give you the strength for what He has called you to do. ~Sue~

I agree with the meal planning. So important!
Craig
Very true. Very challenging at times.

For me, it’s been all about just getting back to menu planning. When I don’t plan, we don’t eat well. When we don’t eat well, we get sick. We’ve been fighting some bug or another for the last couple of months..which is almost exactly how long it’s been since I’ve been planning. Eating well DOES effect our everyday health, and we’re tired of being sick. So my resolution is ALL about menu planning.

So true!

Could not agree more.

My resolutions for January are not so much about food as they are for good health in general, but still–it’s important to remember the simple things. 🙂

I’m with you on the low sugar. It’s everywhere!! I have to teach my MIL how to cook healthier since I am at her house all the time. I have the BEST black Bean avacado BROWNIES that are Dairy free and no sugar. (believe me, they are so good) Best of luck for a healthy new year!!!

I posted my resolutions – but also on the blog this week, we’re having **several** authors post their real food resolutions for 2011.

I recently started my blog…not because I think the world needs another homemaking blog, but because I like the idea of having an on-line scrapbook of sorts.
Two of my food goals for the year are to try making my own kombucha (since I love the stuff) and to develop as many gluten-free meals as possible so that I can be hospitable when my dear SIL (who has Celiac) comes to visit. While these aren’t menioned in my post, they’re goals I have for myself all the same.
Many blessings!
Christopher
I agree Jackie. Writing on a blog is a way for me to share my reflections and journal entries with others. Hopefully many people besides just ourselves learn through our daily happenings.

I’m with you! I linked up and look forward to learning and doing in 2011

We are really trying to clean up the food choices, especially where fast food is concerned. On Fridays I will be posting some healthy fast foods or easy to prepare meals to replace a trip through Subway or McDonalds’s:-) I hope others will join in and share some of their recipes!

I have the similar goal, Kimi – to maintain! I want to make sure all our grains are sprouted or soaked this year. And I have to work harder to get good, cultured dairy in my diet as my nursing son seems to be sensitive to when I drink raw milk.
KimiHarris
I find that maintaining skills learned is the really hard thing to do!

I’ve joined the real food online world with gusto in 2010. I can’t wait for 2011 and what it holds for our health! I dream of the day when I can drink raw milk and eat cheese again.

I posted my garden goals for 2011. Each year we try to get more and more of our nutrition from our own land. This year I’m in a position to grow a lot more than I have been able to in the past few years. I’m excited!
Craig
Looking to be as Paleo as I can in 2011 and work on portion control on my plate so it’s more colorful and balanced.
Lindsey @ Enjoying Healthy Foods
You can do it Craig!

Happy New Year to all of you! My post shares 3 ways all of us can get to know our food better in 2011! My family shares the same goals, either past or present. My post and the goals were inspired by a picture my daughter took, which you must come on by to see. 🙂
Kate @ Modern Alternative Mama
I shared both personal and blog goals in my post!
Although I personally need to get back to meal planning as well. I’m 9 weeks pregnant and that, coupled with the holidays, has not made it easy for the last month or so. We didn’t do TOO badly with junk food, but we often just didn’t eat enough. I don’t keep snack foods around so if no one cooked, then there wasn’t much to eat. I also need to get back on track with making yogurt, kombucha, etc. I have jars sitting there that have been around for several weeks now, I think since Thanksgiving…undrinkable now. Gotta get it back together. I couldn’t stand it in my early weeks so I just didn’t take care of it. But we’re missing it, we’ve been sick for most of that time (first serious time this year, so it’s time to get back on track!

Hi there! I’ve shared my real food journey goals for 2011. I set some goals back in September, and the beginning of the new year seems like a great time to check in with those goals, and re-focus my energies. Thanks to all for sharing your goals too! It’s awfully inspiring to see what everyone else is working towards this year 🙂

Whoops! I put the wrong link in the linky! I’ll try again. Sorry about that.

My healing journey for a chronic illness actually began with the WAPF (Jordan Rubin’s Restoring Your Digestive Health), and then I was persuaded to go the raw vegan direction, which was helpful at first, but has not been good for the long term–particularly for my teeth! Go figure… I’m back to the teachings of the dentist Weston Price. I did rather think the WAPF emphasized too much cooked food and not enough raw foods… so my goal is to balance what seems to be extreme opposites: a high animal food diet with the raw vegan diet’s emphasis on raw vegetables. Green smoothies, salads, collard wraps, etc + the addition of raw goat cheese, eggs, fish, bison, cod liver oil etc, ought to do the trick!
Stephanie
Thanks for the opportunity to do this. Looking forward to a healthy 2011. Much love to you and family!

I’m a little late to the party, but I’d still like to share why I’m against exercising and diet in my post A Resolution for Joy.

Just found your site looking for buckwheat noodles. After covering basic, thrifty, organic cooking for three years, I’m resolving to write more about more unusual ingredients and needs, such as gluten-free recipes. Thanks for the inspiration!
