It’s time for our yearly nourishing resolutions carnival! As I mentioned before, I love the start of a new year as it has always been a reminder to evaluate the last year and start fresh with new hope for a new year. I hope that you will join me in making some nourishing resolutions. In my last post I gave four tips for making successful resolutions. Now for my resolutions….
I mentioned in my last post that there has been some stressful situations recently in my household that has caused (along with the stress) a lot of extra work and some upheaval for me. This has been a real challenge for me, especially with a newborn. So for me I have some interesting challenges coming into this new year. I have extra work ahead of me, a newborn, and I find that I have exhausted myself. I have had some fairly major adrenal issues in the past, and once again I find myself in a place of needing to rebuild. Getting enough rest and good food is crucial. My family is also in need of the same things. As I have considered what I needed to adjust in our daily lives, I realized I have a lot to consider. So keeping in mind my time and energy limits as well as my and my family needs, here are my resolutions.
Basically I am wanting to get the most nutrition with the least amount of effort. This will be accomplished by simplifying where possible, and using slow cookers and one pot meals.
Here are a two of my specific goals.
1) This next month eat a low sugar (limited fruit, limited sweetener, limited starches) and only raw dairy diet. My four year is starting to have some issues because I have been more lax with our usual standards in this area.
2) Create one new nutrient dense meal (liver, clams, oysters, salmon, etc) a month, and create one new “one pan” dinner a month, both of which we would want to eat on a consistent basis.
3) Besides those two specific goals, I am going to keep striving to keep up what I always try to do, such as making bone broths, eating grass fed beef and whole grains, and healthy fats. While in past years, I have used my resolutions to spur me on to learn many new skills, this year I feel a shift towards resolving to keep what I’ve learned in practice.
(Because of this blog and some other projects, I have other food goals for the year, but these are the goals specific for the welfare of my family. If I get to my other food goals for the year, they are icing on the cake!)
