Congrats to Valerie Williams for winning the Pure Indian Foods Giveaway! I have sent you an email.
Toothpaste. It’s one of those basic necessities that we don’t often put much thought into. But as naturally minded people, a product we use to scrub our teeth – inside our mouth, which absorbs products easily – should be a serious consideration!
I have talked about some of the surprising research on how teeth health and diet is related here. When I started learning about this topic, I also wanted to use toothpaste that supported what my diet was hopefully doing.
And that’s where it got tricky.
I found that a lot of homemade recipes for toothpaste or natural toothpastes on the market were hard on my teeth when used for months at a time. I don’t consider my teeth super sensitive, but over time, ones with baking soda in it seemed too harsh, for example.
Sometimes I would find a reasonably “pure” toothpaste, but it would still have glycerin in it, which was something I personally wanted to avoid. All to say it was hard to find one that met my standards and that we also LIKED.
Thankfully, the Redmond Trading Company, produced yet another product we love! As soon as we got our first tube, I was hooked. Earthpaste is definitely my favorite toothpaste! A while back they sent me some sample tubes of it, and ever since it has been my go-to toothpaste.
This toothpaste is based on a food grade clay formula that includes Redmond’s Clay and unrefined salt, purified water, xylitol, and essential oils. And that’s it!
At first, brushing my teeth with some thing brown was very weird. Yes, we are used to chemically treated toothpaste that is bright green or white…not a natural clay brown. But I very soon got used to that, and I enjoy how well this toothpaste works, how natural it is , and how gentle it is on my teeth. I’ve probably used it for a year now, and I still love it. It also continues to be very gentle on my teeth while still helping them stay squeaky clean. I am very happy about that.
The other great thing about this product is that it is food safe, meaning you don’t have to worry about your children swallowing it. It makes brushing your children’s teeth much less stressful!
The one ingredient that is a little more controversial in the real food world is xylitol. There are strong opinions on both sides, with some using it as their sweetener of choice, and others treating it with horror. Yes, it is more refined than any other sweetener I use, and yes, there are some very interesting studies demonstrating its cavity fighting properties. Currently, we don’t bake or cook with it, but do have xylitol mints and gum, and feel fine about it being in our toothpaste. So, I guess you could say I cautiously allow it, and I don’t consider it a strike against this toothpaste.
They currently have four flavors, Cinnamon, Wintergreen, Lemon Twist, Peppermint, and I like all of them. The Lemon twist is especially kid friendly! Would you like to try one? We are giving away 6 toothpastes (flavor of your choice) to my readers!
Where to buy: I am still waiting for my local stores to start carrying this newer toothpaste, but you can buy directly from Redmond’s website here.
I have been using my affiliate Vitacost a lot for buying supplements (I get my favorite iron supplement, Flora Floradix Floravital Iron (gluten-free version), from them for about ten dollars cheaper than buying it at a store!), and I just realized that you can get Earthpaste there too for a great price! I will be adding some into my cart on my next order.
Note: This giveaway is open to those in USA only.
Disclaimer: I receive a small commission plus products to try for many of the giveaways I run. I am so thankful that I get the opportunity to support companies I believe in, and have them support this blog.

I’m super curious about lemon twist. My 8 year old is currently experimenting with making our own toothpowder, very fun. I’d love to share this new option with her!

It’s so refreshing, literally and figuratively, to see companies and people recognizing the value of things like toothpaste. If you read the ingredients, even on some of the “natural” ones, they are not so natural. I would love to try these!

Wintergreen sounds wonderful!

In a pinch I’ve brushed my teeth with coconut oil–it’s a good teeth whitener and my breath always smells really fresh and clean afterwards. I still prefer the minty essential oils though, so I know the Earthpaste is a good choice.
