I am really excited about offering this giveaway to you all! With all of the recent conversations on this blog about Dr. Price and nutrient dense foods,  cod liver oil and butter oil have been frequently referred to as of late, and I have been getting a lot of questions about brand recommendations.  Plus, all of the stories I’ve shared so far with dental improvement through diet, cod liver oil and  butter oil, have often been important parts of the equation.

I wanted to both share the brand that I use, and also give some away, so  I have arranged this giveaway with the online store, The Natural Health Advocates, which is where I often buy my “Dr. Price” supplements. I found them because they offered free shipping on orders over $50, which, when compared to some other online stores, was really helpful. And I love their vision of selling nutrient dense foods based on Dr. Price’s research!

Not all cod liver oil is equal. Many of you have asked me what brand I personally use and recommend. The answer is easy. I exclusively buy Green Pasture’s fermented cod liver oil. While there may be other brands in the future that are also good options, this is the sole brand I currently am willing to buy. This is why.

It contains the natural vitamins of cod liver oil
Most cod liver oil brands take their cod liver oil through a process of refinement, including taking out the natural vitamins, and then adding synthetic vitamins back in. I want the natural sourced vitamins so abundant in cod liver oil. Sometimes we think of only taking cod liver oil for its Omega 3 fatty acids, but the vitamins A and D in the oil are just as important, if not more so.

It is a raw, fermented product
Little processing has happened to this natural source of nutrients; instead it has been fermented for storing purposes (a traditional practice in many societies).

A lot of people have asked me how to take fermented cod liver oil. I find that it really isn’t that bad! It sounds nasty, but we have actually gotten pretty used to it. Here’s the thing, we started both of our girls young with cod liver oil, and neither of them minded it. Aria, my two year old, LOVES it, will ask for it, and will do a “daboo” dance when she is going to get it (daboo is her name for cod liver oil). I am not quite that enthusiastic about it! However, as long as I have a cup of water (or better yet a sip of kombucha or lemon water nearby), it is fine. It doesn’t taste too bad, it just feels funny in the back of my throat, so I like to wash it down. People do different things, such as even adding it to smoothies, lightly sweetened yogurt, or juice with good success. I prefer just to take it straight, as with my girls there is no guarantee that they will actually finish said food if I added it to it.  But, even if you hate it, it is just a couple seconds of discomfort and then it is over. I mean, after going through childbirth, I am pretty sure I can handle that. 😉 And it has been so worth the trouble and expense for us. I figured if it even helped prevent one cavity, a year’s supply for our family would be more then paid for right there. We like the cinnamon tingle and the oslo orange flavor.

Butter oil was the other part of the equation that Dr. Price used. He knew that it had some type of activator in it that made the cod liver oil and minerals from other foods (like milk) more effective and health building. Now we know that it is a source of vitamin K2 (especially when made from cows eating rapidly growing green grass). While butter can also be a good source, this butter oil has the advantage of being carefully produced so that it has optimal vitamin K2 levels and it is more concentrated in vitamins then butter. It is both casein and lactose free, so that many dairy intolerant people can do just fine with it. It is also worth noting that it is produced with the same method that Dr. Price used!

They are almost out of their butter oil as it was a lean year for Green Pastures because of the drought, but they will have it in stock again shortly!

The Natural Health Advocates also carry a wide range of nutrient dense foods and whole food type snacks. As one example of the products they sell, they added this yummy bag of freeze-dried blueberries to our bundle, which are scrumptious by themselves, added to a trail mix, eaten with dark chocolate, or blended into a homemade frosting for both color and flavor. (By the way, their price for this item is better then my local health food store). My girls especially enjoyed these. I’ve also often bought fair trade cocoa powder from them, which I’ve been really happy with. (Every time I order from them, I am tempted to add a bunch of different items into my cart!)

This giveaway is now open! If you win, you will win the following: 1  8 oz. bottle of X-Factor Gold High Vitamin Butter Oil, $59.90.  1 8 oz. bottle of Fermented Cod Liver Oil, Cinnamon Flavor, $44.00. 1 2oz. Pouch of Organic Freeze Dried Blueberries $7.99. Total Value: $111.89

This giveaway is open to all U.S. addresses, however if you are willing to pay shipping for your prize, you are welcome to enter if out of country. It will closed on 25th and winner will be announced 26th.

Use the following widget to enter! Remember that you can do some of these entries more then once, by coming back on a daily basis!

I would like to try the cod liver oil capsules. My son likes the idea of eating anything in a capsule, I would love it if he liked fermented cod liver oil capsules.
Green Pastures makes a face cream that I have heard good things about, maybe they should carry that as well.

I have wanted to try FCLO for quite a while, but haven’t been able to justify the expense if I am not positive it works. This would be great to be able to try to decide if I want to continue purchasing

Why not carry some non-cod liver fish oil, for those of us who want to improve our omega-3 intake even more? Still, this seems like a nice online merchant that I had not found before, I do like their free shipping offer.

I’m super interested in the cod liver oil! I really need to start adding something into my diet that will help my dental health because cavities are always popping up. I’m going to do more research on its benefits and pick some up even if I don’t win. 🙂
