Valentine’s day is going to be cozy, simple, and sweet around here. I thought I’d share the Valentine’s love and do a giveaway to my readers here! I really, truly appreciate you all and this is just a small token of my regard. (Oh, and if you want a list of lower sugar Chocolate desserts, go here).
So, I have a kitchen knife to giveaway, and am giving away a total of 8 ebooks, so there will be more than one winner!
Where should I start? Let’s start with the knife. There’s a story behind this very pink knife. I am not giving it away solely because it’s pink and so very fitting for Valentine’s day. No, I got this pink knife because of a loss in my life. I had this beautiful Komachi knife, which is a Japanese-styled knife used for slicing thinly. To me, it’s like the all-purpose chef knife. I use it literally all the time. Well, being the frugal person that I am, I brought it along on vacation to help me chop my way through the loads of vegetables I brought as part of our dinners at “home”. Well, it wasn’t a frugal choice, because we left it behind, never to be seen again. So sad. We weren’t able to replace it with as expensive of a knife, but I do a lot of chopping in the kitchen. So, when I saw that this pink Pure Komachi Santoku Knife was only about ten dollars and had really positive reviews, I thought I had nothing to lose. It came as sharp as a razor and has stayed sharp incredibly well. Actually, it has stayed sharper much better than my more expensive, hefty knifes do. I have been very pleased with it. I chopped my way through vegetables for over a year with it, and it still works wonders. While it is not the quality knife that will last a lifetime, by any means, and yes, it is very light-weight, I love it still.
So, I am going to give one away to you too! Just to share the knife love.
One of the projects that this knife helped me get through, was all of the recipes for my cookbook, Fresh: Nourishing Salads for All Seasons. I am a very critical person of my own work (aren’t we all?), but I have felt pleased that I use my own cookbook all the time and that it has gotten good reviews by many of you. Here is my description of the book:
“This cookbook was inspired by the idea that food does not have to be complicated to taste good. Furthermore, good food is real food, such as dark greens, bright pineapple, or savory grassfed steak. The recipes in this book were created with everyday needs in mind. Practical, tasty, and simple enough to enjoy on a regular basis, but also full of nourishing, healthy ingredients.
Recipes include old time favorites such as Caesar Salad, a remake of your mother’s Jello salad (this time made with real food ingredients), and Taco Salad. These versions include fresh ingredients for a more nourishing and fresh flavored dish. For example, Mexican beef is made without a seasoning packet, fruit gelatin is made without reaching for a box of refined sugars and dyes, and salad dressings are made using pure ingredients, with none of the additives and flavor enhancers found in store-bought. In addition to old classics, there is a wide variety of fruit, grain, legume, potato and green salads.
I talked here about some of the back story to this vision for this book. I also posted how I increased my energy by a lot when writing this book here.”
I am going to be giving away 4 e-book copies.
And finally, I am excited to giveaway a short e-book that has the potential to have big results! My friend Stephanie, from Keeper of the Home, has written a lovely, helpful, practical, e-book on meal planning. Meal planning is so important for eating well, staying on budget and staying sane. Here’s what she had to say in her intro to Plan It, Don’t Panic: Everything You Need to Successfully Create and Use a Meal Plan.
“So Why Meal Plan?
I think that most women, if asked about cooking dinner for their family, would say that they want to be able to make affordable and healthy meals that are delicious, simple and as quick to prepare as possible.
I find that meal planning is one of the major tools that I use in order to align my cooking with those very same wishes (because no, I don’t like spending hours on dinner, and yes, I’m super frugal and want it to be as nutritious as possible!).
1. Meal planning helps me to be purposeful about what my family is eating. I am able to be more intentional about meeting my family’s nutritional needs by including a wide variety of foods and by seeing where I can improve our menus.
72. It helps me to keep costs low, by reducing waste, planning ahead, taking advantage of sales and seasonal deals, etc.
3. It saves me time and effort (and some days, sanity and gray hairs). I don’t have to start wracking my brain in the middle of the afternoon for what I could possibly make for dinner. Knowing what I am making ahead of time allows me to prepare by taking the meat out of the deep freeze, soaking my grains or beans the day before, making sure I have all of the ingredients, etc.”
My organized friend has written a great resource that will help you meal plan the best way for you. If you struggle with meal planning, this is the perfect booklet for you.
So, here’s what’s up for grabs in the giveaway.
Grand Winner: Kitchen Knife, Fresh: Nourishing Salads for All Seasons (e-book form), Plan It, Don’t Panic: Everything You Need to Successfully Create and Use a Meal Plan.
3 Runner Up Winners: Bundle of both Fresh and Plan It, Don’t Panic e-books
So how do you enter? First, because I am shipping the knife, the Grand Winner does need to be US. However, the ebooks can be won by anyone! Simply leave a comment below saying you’d like to enter the giveaway! If you’d like an extra entry, and you signed up for the sugar cleanse, just leave a comment letting me know! After two weeks of no sugar, you deserve an extra entry. 🙂
This contest will be open until the 17th. I will announce the winner on the 18th.
Finally, Happy Valentine’s Day to all of the readers here at The Nourishing Gourmet. I am grateful for you in so many ways. You inspire me, encourage me, and make all of the work of this blog more than worth it. Thank you.

Thanks, Kimi! I have the same knife and I LOVE it. I was about to spend $50 on a very nice knife when the salesperson told me that all the local chefs come in for these hot pink knives. When I saw the price I snatched it up! I also love the bright orange bread knife. Thanks for the chance!
