ng_icecubetrayIn a plastic world, it can be quite difficult to find non-plastic alternatives. Many of us have become aware of the dangers, but find it hard to avoid. One mother is making a difference by bringing us stainless steel alternatives at The Tickle Trunk! Today, we will be giving away one of her products, a stainless steel ice cube tray, to one lucky commenter.

ng_icecube2

Let me tell you how I liked the one she gave me to review. I found it easy to use and beautiful as well. For easy removal, just don’t fill it up too high. If you do happen to fill it too high and find it hard to get the ice out, a simple run of hot water on the bottom side of the ice cube tray it will make it a cinch to use. (At least that’s what worked for me!).

Uses for this Ice Cube Tray

*Making ice cubes (no, really?)

*Freezing chicken broth cubes from homemade broth

*Freezing homemade baby food

*Making homemade “Mounds” Candy Bars

Do you want one?

Here’s what you need to do to enter.

1-Leave your name and email when you fill out a comment on this post (You don’t need to leave your email in the actual comment, but in the Name: Email: Url: fill-out-form for leaving a comment).

2-Tell us why you would like to receive a stainless steel ice cube tray.

3-If you would like a bonus entry, follow me on twitter and then leave a comment here telling me you have done so! (If you already do, let me know as that counts too!).

UPDATE: Sorry I didn’t have this info on earlier, you are eligible for this give away only if you live in the United States or Canada.

I will announce the winner this Friday. And don’t forget to check out the Tickle Trunk’s great products. She has many lovely and useful items for sale.

Thanks. Tickle Trunk, for a great giveaway!

Do you know where their products are manufactured? Unfortunately, it is hard for me to feel safe even about stainless steel. I often wonder about my stainless steel cookware. It claims to be food grade, but really, how can I be sure, especially if manufactured abroad? I don’t trust any kind of stoneware, unless I know that the company conducts regular testing for lead. So, I have been stuck with glass or high quality enamelware that is certified lead free.

I think these would be a great alternative to plastic! In the summers I like to make up a batch of lemonade and freeze it into cubes; that way drinks don’t get watered down by plain ice cubes.

I love these! I am opening a green mercantile in my town and have high on my list to find SS ice cube trays. Not only are they ideal for reducing your plastic consumption and are safe from plastic chemicals but now they are retro cool too!!!!

I am embarking on a “creative ice cube tray use” summer; iced coffee cubes, popsicles for the kids, summer herb preserving and I love the lemon juice idea.

Maybe SS popsicle molds are next????

Thank you for your wonderful site.

We’d love a SS ice cube tray as our littlest babe is just coming into some solids and its time to start making some pureed foods for her.
    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

I have been waiting to find something like this on the market! I now have a source, after many hours of looking. I’ve just been surprised that it hasn’t been easier to find these, and had no idea that these were used in the “old days”. Sort of like a Mason Jar making a comeback. I would use this tray for MANY things. Everything from baby food, mound bars, frozen basil, chicken stock cubes, frozen lemon juice… My husband and I are super tight on money right now, but even if I don’t win, I look forward to slowly adding these to our kitchen as we can afford bit by bit. I’m so happy they exist!!! Does anyone know, do they stack on top of each other? Thanks for the info and contest 🙂

Those are so great – I remember them from when I was little…

We don’t have an ice maker in our freezer – and so we don’t often have ice – I would love to use one of these old-timey trays…

Oh! We had these extact type of ice cube trays growing up! We are slowly getting rid of the plastic in our home and this would be another area in which to start.

I would love to eliminate more plastic from my home, and freezing homemade stock in them sounds like a great idea! They also look WAY more fun than the boring plastic ones.
I love your blog Kimi (although I am often very jealous of the produce that’s in season for you, but nowhere near ready for us here in Ontario…). Thanks for bringing so many important issues to my attention.

I just saw these at an antique shop on Monday and really liked the idea of doing metal trays for my babies food instead of plastic.

I love all the stainless gadgets. They don’t crack and quite sturdy. Plus it is safe to use in numerous ways to use this tray from making popsicles to unbaked cookies.

I’m 60 y.o. and used to love those ice cube trays (ah, the memories); except, of course, this is MUCH better! Yep, it would be fun to win so I finally have something reasonable to make my husband coconut oil candies. 🙂

I would love to win. Always looking for healthier options and my ice cube trays are still plastic so this would be great!!

I would be so grateful to win this! We are moving and our next house doesn’t have a a fridge with the ice maker feature, and I know that this is much safer for our family, especially my little 13 month old!
We would make fun freshly squeezed juice cubes for summer drinks.

I have never seen anything like these. What a great idea. I don’t make ice cubes anymore because of the plastic issue – but now I can! Raspberry ice cubes are a favorite of my girls. I am going to check out the website too. Thanks for sharing this great product!

How very retro! I saw vintage ice cube trays like this at a yard sale a few weeks ago and thought they were so neat looking. Thanks for sharing, Kimi, and thanks for writing such an interesting blog. Between reading your blog and Passionate Homemaking, I’m on my way to a better-run household with a kitchen that turns out delicious, wholesome meals. You’re doing a wonderful job!

I have really been trying to turn my sister on to the health hazards of plastic for her kids. She is a mother of two and freezes a lot of her own baby food, but this would be a great way for her to make a simple and healthful change! Thank you for the great opportunity!
