Today is the last day to sign up for the stainless steel pizza pan giveaway!
It was the middle of the afternoon and I was starting to drag. I felt like I either needed to take a nap or have a snack. I choose to have a snack ( so much more fun than sleeping!). I wanted something that was refreshing and chocolate. I thought about just having plain chocolate milk, but it didn’t seem refreshing enough. So I decided to add a bit of ice and blend it up into a mock “frappé” chocolate milk for a very cold and delicious treat for a hot afternoon. Yum! This is a very chocoately, slightly sweet, icy treat. I sweetened it with honey and used coconut milk for a dairy free treat, but you could certainly use whole milk instead of the coconut milk and water combo.
A simple yet great afternoon pick me up!
You can play around with how sweet you want yours. Add more sweetener to taste.
- 1 cup of full fat coconut milk
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 large hand fulls of ice
Combine everything in a blender and blend until the ice is thoroughly broken up into a “slushie” like consistency. Taste check and adjust sweetness if desired.

Yumm! I just made this for me and the kids, but used raw cow’s milk instead of coconut milk and kefir instead of water. Thanks for a new summer treat!

Thanks! Yum. My husband will especially love this- he’s a chocolate milk fanatic. 🙂

Thanks–this looks delicious! I’ve never used coconut milk before. Do you have any recommendations for brands, canned versus fresh, etc?

Sounds great!! Thanks for sharing!

Mmm! This is very similar to one of my own creations. Great minds think alike, right? 🙂 Try substituting a whole very ripe banana for the honey. It is sweet and makes a thicker consistency. Sometimes I add dairy-free chocolate chips at the end and pulse a few times. Yum!

This sounds like a great drink to try. I also like the suggestions for variety, depending on what is in my cupboard.

This sounds like a delicious, healthy drink. I have a healthy ice cream that is all fruit but no Mck Linky to post it to. Is it just me or is not up?

This taste great! Especially when it’s nearing 100 degrees outside. I’m thinking mint leaves would be a nice variation ~ and I like the idea of using a banana vs. honey. Mmmm, all the possibilities.

Divine! I am glad you choose the snack. 🙂 I did not have coconut milk so I substituted almond milk. Turned out great.

Hi Kimi!
I’ve been making these all summer long and they are a real favorite of mine – a perfect afternoon pick-me up. Today I really wanted one, but we were out of ice. I was so bummed until I looked in the freezer and remembered that we had frozen strawberries! Used those instead of the ice and it was SO GOOD! You have to try it! I think I’m going to try frozen raspberries next!
Thanks for the great recipe!

This sounds exactly like something that will sooth you on a hot summer day.

What a great recipe! I did use regular cow’s milk, as I don’t prefer the flavor of coconut milk, and I used a little less water. With the remaining water measurement, I used coffee that had been cooled. Next time, I think I will try completely subbing the water with coffee. This recipe is wonderful, thank you for sharing!

I also used powdered stevia as the sweetener, instead of honey.
