It’s time to finally announce the 6 winners of the Spring Cleaning Challenge! Sorry for the delay. It took me forever and a half to enter in all of the entries. Meanwhile, I know that you are reaping the rewards of accomplishing your own Spring cleaning goals.

And I loved how everyone shared tips too! I thought that this tip was especially helpful as I had never heard of doing this before.

MB: One hint while you’re cleaning and reorganizing and wiping down…get some bay leaves (dollar store cheap-os are fine). Tuck a bayleaf into the corners of each shelf and each drawer. Put one in each drawer divider/organizer tray. Drop one into every box/container that you use to store grains, cereals, flours, dried beans, etc. Why? The little grubs that hatch into little moths which lay eggs which… will not infest and breed in those places! They live and grow even in the sawdust dropped by scraping drawers! The bay leaf doesn’t add flavor to anything that you put it in. Bay leaves even inhibit the entrance of those pesky Japanese lady beetles that are crawling all over now. Tuck a bay leaf into window frame cracks, between casement window panels, around window and door trim! It works! It’s cheap and earth-friendly!

Pretty cool, huh? Now to the giveaways. Here is what we are giving away.

yogurt starter
First, Julie from is offering you one free culture of choice ($11.99 value), such as one of her fabulous sourdoughs, or kombucha mushrooms, water or milk kefir grains, or yogurt starters (she has super easy to use ones that work with raw milk too!). This is a great opportunity to expand your collection of cultures.

Sausage
Then, is offering a delicious combo of raw cheese and sausage! I just ordered a pretty large order of sausages from them and have loved everything I’ve tried so far. This grass fed beef is high quality and delicious and they have everything from salami and summer sausage to liverwurst. Their raw cheese also sounds amazing and they carry many different types. They are offering a one sausage and one raw cheese combo to one lucky winner. The value of this varies a little depending on what sausage you choose, but the package is worth about 20 dollars.

Marilyn from is giving away two amazing eco friendly easy to use cleaning tools. These cloths will last you a long time.

Norwex-Enviro-Cloth single

The Antibacterial Enviro Cloth (value $14.50) is super cool because all you need to do is use a little water and wipe and you will pick up 99 percent of germs from smooth surfaces! “The antibacterial Enviro Cloth is a multipurpose cleaning cloth which can be used dry or damp for cleaning walls, tiles, bathtubs, counters, metal surfaces, car interiors and more. The unique anti-bacterial cloth prevents cross contamination, traps germs inside the cloth and destroys them within a few hours. Clean these cloths by simply wringing it out and hanging to dry. Keep one in the bath, one in the kitchen, and one in the car or laundry.”

The Antibac Window Cloth (Polishing Cloth), worth $16.99, is also antibacterial but is especially made for cleaning glass. Once again, you only need to use water to use it.” The Antibac Window Cloth allows you to clean your windows, mirrors, and shiny surfaces with water alone. Clean dirty surface first with a moist Enviro Cloth then polish with the Window cloth for a guaranteed streak-free surface. On less dirty surfaces you can spray water on the surface and polish with the Window Cloth alone.

We tried this on a window with the sun shining on it. With substantially less effort the windows had no streaks. If you dislike window washing like I do, you will be delighted to obtain an effective cleaning cloth requiring less work.”

375ml Olive Oil

Chris from is giving away a 375 ml bottle of their amazing olive oil ($8.50 value). Their olives are grown on some of the oldest olive trees in California. The type of olive they use makes a tremendously mild olive oil. One of my favorite all time olive oils that is mild enough to make a good mayo! This is a great chance to try it for yourself. I personally love this olive oil.

      Hi Jani!

I had put some Real Food Media links in, but for some reason they don’t seem to be working. 🙁 You will find all of those products on my resource page with links to the sponsors. 🙂

Kimi, Not to rain on your or MB’s parade, but you might want to research the suggestion to use bay leaves as a bug deterrent. I believe you will find many repetitions of the old-fashioned suggestion to use a bay leaf to keep bugs out of containers of flour and meal. I think you will also find that fairly recent research points out that bay leaves don’t work for that purpose. I know you mean to communicate only the best information and I’m sure the hint was submitted in good conscience.
