So what does a fundraiser for orphans in India have to do with a food blog? Simple. They need to eat too. My good friend Elaini is doing quite the fundraiser. She’s wearing the same black dress for 100 days (right through the summer). But she’s making it fun too, by wearing it a different way every single day. Now that calls for creativity! Follow her as Misselainious.com and help support this noble cause.
Meanwhile, read this interview I did with Elaini on this project.
Elaini, What inspired you to do this project?
So many things came together in order for me to realize that this project was something I needed to do. The first reason is that I have had a fear of failing. I wanted to be stretched so I knew that would require stepping outside my comfort zone and doing something that I was afraid to do. I am being stretched…! Also I love Jesus and he loves orphans so I knew that I wanted to be a part of something that he cares about. The fashion part came together because I had heard of another woman, Sheena, who had done this type of fundraiser and I thought it was brilliant. The puzzle pieces just came together.
You have a real heart for the orphans you are raising this money for. Where did that compassion come from?
Since I was 10 I have wanted to go to India. Due to severe health issues in the past and more moderate ones now I am unable at this moment to go over there and care for orphans myself. I ache for the pain that they have endured. I have been through pain physically and although their pain is mostly of a different kind pain is still pain. I guess that is a large part of the compassion I have for these little ones. I can’t imagine not having parents, a home, food, and clothing. My parents are my best friends so I would be devastated if I lost them.
Can you give examples of what the money will be used for by Warm Blankets Orphan Care?
100% of every donation goes directly to the orphans. Warm Blankets Orphan Care is in the process of opening 11 new homes! The money will go towards furnishing the homes, clothing, uniforms for going to school, food, and so much more. $5 can feed one orphan for a month…that is 90 meals.
What have you enjoyed the most about your project?
Connecting with so many amazing people and seeing little children give. They have such tender hearts and it completely melts me every time a little one here gives to the suffering little ones in India. It just takes my breath away. Seeing money come in! 😀
What have you enjoyed the least?
My health is suffering because of this and I am very weak. If I’m honest it is a struggle but really it doesn’t compare to the joy of being a part of something so much bigger than myself.
What is the number one question you are asked about the project?
Do I wash the dress?…YES!!!
What have you learned so far on this journey?
Wow that is a hard question. A lot of things, but mainly the impact we can have when we come together and each do a little part it can really add up to something great. I can’t do this alone. I need people to jump in and be a part of the project. Thank you Kimi for partnering with me for these sweet children.

What a cool way to raise money for orphans in India!! And great blog post, Kimi! I love the variation.

Bless you, Elaini, for caring and putting action to that caring! My husband and I lived in South Africa for a year (2007-2008) and a big part of what we did was care for AIDS orphans. I can tell you that for those working “hands on” there in India and for the little ones being blessed by your efforts, they feel very much connected to you. Your hand IS reaching across the globe and those who are physically there using the money you raise are an extention of you!

What an exciting project! Thanks for sharing what Elaini is doing and the burden she has for these orphans; it is such an example of how the Lord cares for them!

What a great idea for a worthy cause. I’ll be interested to read how she feels about that dress after 100 days!
