Now that I am reminded to be grateful for what I have, it’s time to take heart and dig into uses my resources well! What tips do you have today for all of us? How do you make nourishing meet frugal?

Last week, we had some more wonderful contributions. Once again, it’s hard to decided who to highlight. But in light of our trip, I thought it would be fun to highlight some great “portable” nourishing food posts.

Emily, at Real Food Lover, shares a delightful portable taco lunch. Her husband is one lucky man! Jenny at Nourished Kitchen shares a recipe for , which make an easy to grab portable snack. And finally, Wardeh shares a wonderful post sharing food to pack for traveling. Some real gems there!

I hope we will get as many this week too!

Go for carnival guidelines here and format your contribution (in the comment section for this post) like the following. Also remember to link back to this post! Thanks!

Kimi @ The Nourishing Gourmet Five Healthy and Frugal Meals (https://www.thenourishinggourmet.com/2009/07/five-frugal-and-healthy-meals.html) Today I share five meals that are healthy, easy and frugal. They also happen to be family standby’s so you know they’ve been “family approved”. Check them out!

Kimi @ The Nourishing Gourmet Lessons From History: The Gift of Having Enough
A reminder for myself and others to be grateful for what we have, even when we can’t afford everything we want too.

Katie @ Kitchen Stewardship
Upgrade Your Condiment Awareness
10 Easy Choices to help you either use less or find/make healthier options for the condiments we Americans love to pile on our tables!

Amanda @ the Rebuild blog: Turning those mountains of over-ripe fruit into fruit leather . I have included written instructions and two videos on preparing, drying, storing, and using the fruit. Yumm.

Carrie @ Organic and Thrifty Here’s my 5-day breakfast meal plan of simple, thrifty, and filling breakfasts that can be made in advance or in 10 minutes or less. Geared for busy moms and back-to-school! Nourishment for pennies per person!

Amanda @ Coping with Frugality
Using an inexpensive cut of meat to make an amazing salad: Carne Asada Salad

Cara @ Health Home and Happiness: I posted about making a nutritious, but easy, whole foods energy bar since the ones you buy at the health food store can be really pricey.

Wardeh @ GNOWFGLIN
Soaked Whole Wheat Tortillas – Recipe Conversion to Soaked
This is a super exciting recipe conversion and I want to thank Mindy, a gnowfglins.com reader and sweet friend! She worked with my whole wheat tortilla recipe and converted it to be a soaked whole wheat tortilla recipe. Homemade tortillas are always frugal, and these are healthy to boot!

Ren @ Edible Aria Torta di Maccheroni

Today’s goal was to use up some odds and ends to make a frugal, but tasty and nourishing dish. The result was an Italian style baked macaroni and cheese, torta di maccheroni.

This is a very flexible dish that you can take uptown or downtown depending on your choice of ingredients.

thank you so much for the mention of my hubby’s lunch! i have nothing to share today from my blog, as my most recent post was on duck fat which sadly, is expensive to buy, unless of course you do as my grandmother did which was to render the fat from any goose or duck they ate (my dad recalls eating a duck about once a month) and save it in a bowl on the kitchen counter! Grandma loved it spread on toast. My grandmother was eastern european and Jewish, survived the second world war, and knew to use all edible parts of every kind of animal. Her favorite was cows brain, tounge and calve’s liver fried with onion.

Hi — Does anyone have any tips for cooking up an amazing pot of beans? Black beans or red beans? I looked on line and found some tips for cooking a great pot of Cuban black beans: “add TONS of olive oil (a pint or more)” along with lots of cumin of course. I also added some pork fat slices (bacon I think) and it was super yummy – and won lots of “Bravos,” although it did dry out a bit once cooled. With the red beans – I’m not so sure how to create a super yummy pot. The traditional Joy of Cooking type recipes are so bland with beans….. Does anyone have a good red beans and rice dish to share? This is a meal frugal, no? Do beans have to have some sort of pork bone or pork fat to be tastey? My husband is Jewish and prefers not to eat pork, but beans without pork just seem so bland….
