It’s time to share your frugal and nourishing tips and recipes! Where do you shop for quality food at a lower price? What recipe saves a penny? How do you balance a budget with nourishing food? Share here.

Please read through the three simple rules for those participating. This helps keep the quality of our carnival. Please read them through before linking and thanks again for your continued participation.

1) No linking to giveaways or promotions for affiliates or sponsors. One thing that I’ve noticed increasingly on Pennywise Platter is that I am getting more and more promotional pieces for affiliates or sponsors and a lot of giveaways. I’ve decided to keep Pennywise less “commercial” and more in tune with the spirit of the carnival by not allowing these links anymore. There was nothing wrong with those of you who linked to them, I just think that it will protect the integrity of our carnival better without them. Plus, it makes our links valuable in the future as well. A link to a giveaway three months old isn’t going to be worth browsing in three months time, but a link to a recipe for a frugal soup would be. I will be deleting any giveaway links or promotional links.

2) Keep the ingredients “nourishing”, such as whole grains, meats, vegetables, legumes, unrefined salt and sugars, chicken, etc. I am not going to be an ingredient police every week, but if there is a link to a post that is obviously not filling any of the criteria for healthy (for example, a white flour, white sugar birthday cake), I will delete that link. However, feel free to post vegetarian, vegan, raw, low-carb, etc.

3) Link back to the carnival This is common carnival courtesy. And more then that, it helps build the community of the carnival as you are sending your readers to others participating. And please, as a blogger, check out other’s posts and leave a comment! I know that we would all love to hear from each other.

Kimi – Hope you are well. Thank you for hosting when you’re so close to due. I’m sharing a recipe for soup made from jerky. It seems like the men and kids in my life get most excited about this soup, but I enjoy it as well. It’s just what a soup should be – made from simple ingredient that come together to create a magical and soothing dish.

This is one of my favorite blog hops. Also, I love your new series on plastics. Very well done. Plastic is 90% non-existant in our home, and whatever plastic remains is BPA free. And… I’m no longer buying canned goods. This will be interesting when I want to make spaghetti and I didn’t put up any of my own tomato sauce/freeze any fresh tomatoes this year… But I’m going for it! 🙂 They sell glass drinking bottles now? I had no idea! Sold!

Ok who knows the difference between Cottage Pie and Shepherd’s Pie? There is a difference as I found out.

Good morning, all! I’m sharing the secret to the best homemade tortilla chips ever. Not only will you save money, but they’re so much healthier and more delicious than store bought. Here’s a hint: you don’t start with tortillas.

Hi! I was looking for a fun fall snack and my 5 year old suggested candied apples. I sat down and tried to figure out how to make them healthier. My solution was black strap molasses candy apples. All 5 of my kids loved them!

I have been truly encouraged lately by the fact that many herbs are nutritional, not just medicinal, and can be added to smoothies and meals to help increase our health! This is Part 1 and 2 of some of the herbs we are using in our family of 7, and why…maybe this will give you some ideas, too!

    Warmly,

There’s just something amazingly delicious about a cranberry apple walnut salad. I’m sure you’ve had a version of this at some point or have at least seen it on a menu. While this salad is often made with dried cranberries, here’s a simple twist by using fresh cranberries.

One of the most frugal things I do is cut cost other places. I make my own laundry soap and dishwasher detergent. The Dishwasher detergent is soooo easy it is 1/2 c baking soda, 1/2 c borax, and 1/4c corse salt! yes it works we have been using it for years and it leaves us more money for our whole foods 🙂 I also buy the tougher, cheaper cuts of meat from my local grass fed farm. People tend to not want them b/c you have to cook them longer ect. I find that they usually have a lot of it and are willing to deal with me to move stock!!!!
