Nut butter and bananas are blended with coconut milk to make a thick, protein-rich smoothie. One of you mentioned making a nut butter smoothie on my Facebook Page this week and then I saw someone else mention it on pinterest too. It was an interesting idea, so I thought I’d make a dairy-free version and see what it was like.

I am impressed! The first sip of peanut butter goodness, left a question in my mind. But as I got used to the idea of sipping rather than eating peanut butter, I found I really enjoyed it. What really impressed me, however, was how it satisfied me and kept me full. I sipped it alongside an egg and sausage link.  All of the health fats from the coconut cream and nuts,  the protein from the nuts (and the egg and sausage link), and the carbohydrates from the banana kept me going until lunch time. Generally, I have a small snack mid-morning, but I definitely didn’t need it today!

I thought about adding in some chia seeds to make the protein content even higher, but my bag hide from me this morning. I am sure there are a million variations to this idea. I’d love to hear your ideas! I used peanut butter simply because I thought it would be an easier nut butter to drink (because it’s sweet, it goes well in this recipe). But I am definitely going to try some other nut butters as well.

Nut Butter Banana Smoothie Serves 1

    1 ripe banana
    2 tablespoons of peanut butter
    1/16  teaspoon of vanilla extract (I used one-half of a 1/8 teaspoon)
2 tablespoons of Organic Raw Coconut Butter (or similar product)
About 1/2 cup of filtered water
Or, instead of the water and coconut butter, 1/2 cup of full-fat coconut milk (or homemade)

Blend together in a blender and serve.

Try homemade hazelnut butter. It’s quite yummy this way as well!

I love making a smoothie like this with almond butter and coconut oil. I’ll add a raw, farm-fresh egg and some protein powder for a great breakfast meal and sometimes I’ll add a spoonful of raw cacao powder – just like a chocolate milkshake only healthier!

I’ve been making these for months now except I add some greens also. This morning I made it with banana, almond milk and almond butter, some fresh pineapple, spinach and unsweetened coconut-my chia seeds were also hiding but I have used them before. Delicious! I’ve used raw milk, coconut milk and even water with cashews ground in it. They are good made with cinnamon, nutmeg, and/or vanilla also. I often use a spring mix of greens in place of spinach.

I love nut butter smoothies with almond butter! I’ll have to try the coconut butter –I normally use yogurt. On a side note, this weekend, I made a green pea dip for my 19 month old daughter with almond butter. It was kind of weird but she loved it!

Sounds delicious! One question- is it a frozen banana or does it make a difference?

I too have been making this smoothie with several different variations. I use peanut butter, very ripe banana, frozen spinach, frozen blueberries, then depending on taste either almond milk, coconut milk or dark chocolate almond milk, which I think might be our new favorite. Smoothies are fun and filling.

I just saw this recipe on Facebook and it sounded so good that I walked into the kitchen and made one. Amazing! I used full-fat coconut milk and I added about a tbsp. of raw cocoa powder and some vanilla stevia. It tastes fantastic!!!

Sounds weird, but it is AMAZING – try half an avocado, some nut butter, raw honey and milk (or whatever non-dairy milk of your choice). To die for. Keeps you full and going for hours.

This all makes me want to have one right this minute. I freeze my bananas to make the drink nice and cold.
I definitely want to try that coconut butter. I need to use up my homemade almond milk, this will be a good way to do it.

Peanut butter banana smoothies are an archerfriendly treat! Love them & eat them lots. I have to amp up the peanut butter and add extra fiber or my blood sugar goes all wonky from the banana.

I JUST made this this morning. It’s a staple in my house, the peanut butter banana smoothie. Goes like this: ice, milk, frozen banana, BLEND, vanilla, cinnamon, golden ground flaxseed, sea salt, scoop of peanut butter, BLEND again. DONE! I’ve also used almond butter and coconut milk and almond extract and other spices in various combinations. It’s so good and always works.

I make this type of smoothie for my 11 year old son every morning. I use raw goats milk, banana, peanut butter, honey, cocoa powder, raw egg, flax seed, and ice.

I always add a tablespoon of almonds and a tablespoon of sweet almond oil to my all-fruit or dairy-based smoothies, that is really nice as well.

I just made this tonight with almond butter and adding some good quality cocoa powder. So yummy!! I almost needed a spoon, it was so thick. Next time using a frozen banana for an “ice cream” shake. I can see so many possibilities for this too. Thanks for the recipe and the inspiration!

I’ve been making these too. I thought I was the only one. I add coconut yogurt and a handful is oatmeal. Sometimes coffee or cocoa.
