“Oh, it is so heavenly here in Washington. It is dry, and a tang of cold, and the air is fresh and golden, and the trees are golden too, and the gutters where the leaves have scatter down…It is not a soft tropical gold but hard and firm and healthy, as though you could dig our teeth into it, like a stinging, fresh cool apple. My heart and blood rise up in it and I feel alive and I want to walk and sing.”
Anne Lindbergh, in a letter to her mother, October 13th, 1929
I feel that Anne described Fall so well. There is something that is so stimulating and wonderful about Fall, when the wind starts to sting a little, the air is so clear, and the trees start to drop golden red leaves all over our walkways.
And the food? The food changes from the bright colors and tastes of summer, to the warming experiences and tastes of apple pie, pumpkin muffins, stews and soups, hot tea and everything warm and toasty.
There are so many Fall dishes to enjoy and celebrate. I can’t wait to see what you all have to share.
For my addition to this carnival, I had to choose between several different recipes, but this one won out (even though it was much simpler then the other choices). I decided to share a simple, delicious and fun recipe for Butternut Squash Fries. My husband and daughter are always so glad to see this on the menu, and I hope you enjoy them too.
