(Our little five dollar Christmas tree is the perfect size for Elena, and perfectly fits into our budget too!)
It has been an interesting last few days, with snow piling around our doorsteps, losing our power the last 18 hours, and the snow still coming fast. With no electricity, I wasn’t able to get on my computer to post my Merry Christmas post I was planning too, so this little short hello will have to do.
Merry Christmas!
It was fun not having the distraction of the computer however. We ended up reading a few chapters of a favorite book out loud together with my sisters, which doesn’t generally happen.
We are currently busy trying to get our house together and pack for a planned Christmas trip with my family and extended family. It’s going to be interesting trying to get out of here with all of the snow, but we will be driving with my dad who is a truck driver, so we feel pretty safe.
We got a little behind in our packing because we were busy trying to save food from our freezer (our little freezer was defrosting without the electricity) and turning my unbaked bread into tortillas. We also had a fun time playing in the snow for a while.
(The wonder of seeing the first snow fall)
This Christmas will be “light” in gifts and money spent, but I hope it will be full of love and good cheer. I know that I am looking forward to spending time with family, making yummy food, and celebrating this Christmas together with those I hold dear. Our plans have been a little interrupted so far, and haven’t gone as we hoped, but that’s all part of the adventure I guess!
I may be able to check my email from where we are staying over Christmas, and may even squeeze a post or two in while gone, but I probably won’t be around quite as much as usual. So I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and I am so looking forward to the New Year. I have a lot of plans for this blog for the new year, so stay tuned for more to come.
I was hoping to have a few more Christmas appropriate recipes up here before we left, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen before we leave. But there are still plenty of recipes to check out.

I wish we’d get some snow to go with the freezing cold we are having. Yesterday the temp. was about 19 degrees. Today it’s not much warmer. We are having Christmas in my home, so I’m busy trying to get everything ready. I just finished watching a Jamie Oliver Christmas Special on You Tube and posted links to them on my blog. I’m not blogging much if at all this week because of hosting the family. But I am enjoying cooking making the house smell of ginger breads, cloves and meats. I can’t wait to share my food with my extended family members.

I was talking with Carrie from the Thrifty Oreganic today (who lives near you) and we were laughing because she said you’ve gotten about 6″ there and it’s got the city all crazy. Over here in Michigan we’ve had FIFTY inches so far this winter (that’s 5-0, and 13″ just in one day last week!), and we’re doing nothing but shoveling and wondering what kind of trip it will be getting to our parents’ up North on Christmas Eve! OK, I say “we” have been shoveling, but really I mean my husband and teenage son have… LOL. I’ve been making a lot of hot cocoa, though, and digging around for another pair of dry gloves so the kids can keep building forts. 🙂

Merry Christmas! Sometimes the unusual ones are the most memorable. We are all wrapped and ready to see the family except the recipe my husband made to bring didn’t turn out so well…I have to run to the store now and make a different dish to bring! So much for delegating! ha!
All the best to you and yours…
