Yesterday, I briefly talked about flax. Today we will discuss hemp, and look for another post about chia seeds soon!
What do you think of when I say “hemp”? I think of marijuna and hippy homeless young women selling homemade hemp bracelets on the streets. However, hemp is appearing everywhere now in the form of hemp milk, hemp seed, hemp protein powder, etc. I decided it was time to look into the matter and see what all of the hype was about.
(I will do a food tasting review of hemp at the bottom of this page, but in case you can’t wait to find out, hemp seeds taste great-a little like pine nuts).
Benefits
Hemp is a high protein seed containing all nine of the essential amino acids (like flax). It also has high amounts of fatty acids and fiber as well as containing vitamin E and trace minerals. It has a balanced ratio of omega 3 to 6 fats at around a three to one ratio. This won’t help correct your omega balance if it’s off, but it gives you the right balance to start with.
Further the protein content of the hemp seed is supposed to be very digestible. Many people noted their personal experience of finding that hemp seed protein did not cause bloating or gas, like some of their whey, or other protein shakes did.
And, get this, unlike soy which has super high amounts of phytic acid (that anti-nutrient that prevents us from absorbing minerals), hemp seed doesn’t contain phytic acid. At the very least, this makes hemp seed a step up from soy.
The Body Ecology Diet site has an article discussing hemp here.
It contains a list of benefits including what I mentioned above plus including some others as well.
Hemp contains:
* All 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce.
* A high protein percentage of the simple proteins that strengthen immunity and fend off toxins.
* Eating hemp seeds in any form could aid, if not heal, people suffering from immune deficiency diseases. This conclusion is supported by the fact that hemp seed has been used to treat nutritional deficiencies brought on by tuberculosis, a severe nutrition blocking disease that causes the body to waste away.3
* Nature’s highest botanical source of essential fatty acid, with more essential fatty acid than flax or any other nut or seed oil.
* A perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid and Omega-3 Linolenic Acid – for cardiovascular health and general strengthening of the immune system.
* A superior vegetarian source of protein considered easily digestible.
* A rich source of phytonutrients, the disease-protective element of plants with benefits protecting your immunity, bloodstream, tissues, cells, skin, organs and mitochondria.
* The richest known source of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids.
This article claims that because hemp’s protein is in the globulin edistin form it is a superior source of protein. It ends that thought with this paragraph.
“The best way to insure the body has enough amino acid material to make the globulins is to eat foods high in globulin proteins. Since hemp seed protein is 65% globulin edistin, and also includes quantities of albumin, its protein is readily available in a form quite similar to that found in blood plasma. Eating hemp seeds gives the body all the essential amino acids required to maintain health, and provides the necessary kinds and amounts of amino acids the body needs to make human serum albumin and serum globulins like the immune enhancing gamma globulins. Eating hemp seeds could aid, if not heal, people suffering from immune deficiency diseases. This conclusion is supported by the fact that hemp seed was used to treat nutritional deficiencies brought on by tuberculosis, a severe nutrition blocking disease that causes the body to waste away. [Czechoslovakia Tubercular Nutritional Study, 1955] “
Can it make you high?
In short, no. To grow marijuna you have to have special seed that grows a plant high in THC, the property responsible for the drug response. Commercial hemp seed contains very low amounts, plus they contain a substance that counteracts THC. Dr. David West says:
“Reality: Hemp oil is an increasingly popular product, used for an expanding variety of purposes. The washed hemp seed contains no THC at all. The tiny amounts of THC contained in industrial hemp are in the glands of the plant itself. Sometimes, in the manufacturing process, some THC- and CBD-containing resin sticks to the seed, resulting in traces of THC in the oil that is produced. The concentration of these cannabinoids in the oil is infinitesimal. No one can get high from using hemp oil. ” Hemp and Marijuana:
Myths & Realities
Nutiva also answers that concern
“Q:What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
A. Marijuana and hemp both come from the same species of plant, Cannabis sativa L., but from different varieties. There are different varieties of Cannabis, just as Chihuahuas and St. Bernards are different breeds of dogs, Canis familiari.
Marijuana is the flowering tops and leaves of psychoactive varieties of Cannabis that are grown for their high THC content.
Hemp, also referred to as industrial hemp, are low-THC varieties of Cannabis that are grown for their seeds and fiber. Hemp is grown legally in just about every industrialized country except the USA”
Nutiva, as well as other companies, are part of the “Test Pledge”. It’s a pledge that their products won’t have amounts of THC in them that would cause someone to fail a drug test.
Was it Historically used as a food?
One thing is clear. Hemp has been grown for a long time. It may even be one of the first crops. Hemp was used for making paper, clothes, and ropes and oil for lamps. But was it produced for food, or was it simply eaten in times of famine?
It looks like it was definitely used as a medicine for a variety of uses. The Chinese especially utilized hemp seed for medicine. Go here for some of the historical medicinal uses of hemp seed.
This quote gives a good overview of some of the information I found about the historical uses of hemp as food.
“The use of hemp for food and medicine may be as old as the human race itself. Recent interest in the seed arises from the awareness of the nutritional need for omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids, as well as the need for cheap sources of protein to feed a burgeoning population in Asia and the developing world. In addition to its nutritional value, hemp seed has demonstrated positive health benefits, including the lowering of cholesterol and high blood pressure.
In the second century, Galen recorded that some people enjoyed eating fried hemp seeds with their desserts. As recently as the 1950’s in Southern Africa, mothers of the Sotho tribe served the ground seed “with bread or mealie-pap” to children during weaning. Human uses of hemp seed for food are naturally found in India where the oil is pressed to provide a table oil, and in Russia where the oil is made into a kind of hemp butter or margarine.
In Europe, it was once required of monks that three meals made of hemp seed were eaten daily, whether in soups, gruel, or porridges. In the belief that the spirits of dead relatives visit every Christmas Eve, the Polish and Lithuanian people prepared them a soup of hemp seed which was called “semieniatka”. The Ukrainian and Latvian people made a similar offering on the day of Three Kings. In China, hemp seed was consumed by farmers in the north and the seed were listed as a famine food for the starving multitudes of China near the end of World War II. Australians also used the seed during two famines in the nineteenth century.
Today’s hemp seed products are being developed on the working premise of that which can be done with flax seed and soy beans might also be applied to hemp seed. Very basic food preparation, and the processing techniques have been the start of such seemingly remarkable foods as a hemp seed tofu and a low fat cheese substitute that even melts and stretches like real cheese.”
I felt like the historical use of hemp as a food seems about as high as the case for flax historically being used as a food (some people think that flax was just a “famine food” as well.)
Ending Thoughts
I would like to give hemp a chance, but would like to see more long term studies done on hemp before I add it into my daily diet. It does seem like the Chinese consumed it for a long period of time, and that reassures me. I would just like to read a little more about the long term effects of eating it often. Like flax, I wonder if hemp seed is really meant to be consumed on a constant basis in the form of hemp milk, hemp cheese and hemp protein shakes. That seems to be taking moderation out of the picture.
I don’t like overly processed foods, so if we were to start adding in hemp seed, it would be in the form of hemp seeds, pure and simple. I also don’t think that hemp should replace your animal protein sources-but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t have a place in your diet. One last note, I mentioned yesterday that flax was high in phytoestrogens (in fact, even higher than soy), from what I can tell from my reading, hemp either doesn’t contain any phytoestrogens or very little. (One article said it has some and a bunch of others claimed it didn’t have any). I will try to keep my eye out for more information about hemp and flax.
Hemp Product Review
This post was really inspired by some samples of Nutiva’s hemp products. I had received some of their Organic Coconut Oil (which is great) and some of their different hemp products which they generously gave me. I have been impressed with the quality of products we received from them. Here are some of my thoughts on the samples I received. You can buy Nutiva hempseeds for a great price here at my Amazon affiliate,(other products below are linked to with an affiliate link).
Hemp Seeds
Their hemp seed taste great! A very nutty, almost sweet taste. I would have to say that it tastes almost like a pine nut, but a bit more mellow. I can imagine it would be great in a variety of dishes.
Hemp Oil
This has a slightly nutty flavor and lightly green color (similar to some olive oil in color). I could imagine adding it to a salad dressings, but not using just hemp oil for the oil part.
Organic Hemp and Flax Seed Bars
These were delicious. Sweetened only with honey, they were just perfect in their level of sweetness. Of course, none of the seeds in these bars are soaked and dehydrated, but they sure were good! All three of us liked them. If it wasn’t for the enzyme inhibitors in seeds, I would definitely like to have these bars around for a quick bite on the run.
HempShakes
We found that we like these better when added to a smoothie base of frozen bananas and coconut milk. Done this way, they were pretty delicious.
Hemp Protein Powder
We actually haven’t tried this yet, but it seems like it could be a great source of protein.
So there are my thoughts. What about you? Do you have concerns, or do you consume them often? Please share!

I’ve been given my son the hemp protein powder shake (hemp pro 70) since i have to add more protein to his diet plus omega 3 and this product has both i was looking for natural source and it is wonderful. he likes the taste i mix it up with almond milk vanilla flavor and he loves it!!.
Can someone please explain why I get super bloated and gas-y after eating hemp?
I love it! I eat it alone… I love the taste and I don’t bother mixing it with anything else. I have been taking hemp for about a month now… I haven’t noticed great changes but then again I only take in about 1-3 tbs a day. I also eat chia seeds disolved in water with a tiny bit of honey every morning… they do make your bowel movements regular for those that have constipation problems. FYI: costco now has the big bag 650g or raw shelled hemp seeds on sale for $14.99 !!!!!!! in other stores I was able to find the same brand about 220g for $9.99 so go to Costco people and get your bags there while it lasts
HEEMP ! <3
Hi Kimi. I was just wondering if you’ve come to more of a conclusion about hemp seeds yet? Also, did you ever do the post on chia seeds? I can’t seem to find it when I search “chia seeds” if you did.
Thanks,
Melody
I am wonderes by the heemp seed properties, I have no words to express, only tank at universes’ creator for all benefits he offer as to live!
I received a small sample from Green Market and tried them a few tablespoons at a time with my cereal. They are good and I’ve had no ill effects and I have a LOT of food allergies including several types of nuts, meat, veggies. I’m always glad when I can find a high nutritious food that tastes good.
That’s highly nutritious, not high. No pun intended.
Excellent blog, thank you.
Hemp is still illegal for human consumtion in AU and NZ, but readily available for purchase as ‘pet food’ (amazing how many people suddenly consider themselves to be someone’s pet LOL)
One lovely oxymoron in your post, made me chuckle:
…hippy homeless young women selling homemade hemp bracelets …
homeless but homemade 😉
I add hemp seeds to my bran muffins. It adds a wonderful dimension – subtle. But now this is the only way I like my muffins! Since I eat at least one a day, it would be good to have actual numbers for the nutritional value of hemp seed.
see http://www.hemphearts.com for their nutritional value details. looks like a really great nutritional supplement. i am trying it soon.
I have started making my own hemp milk shakes with chia seeds and raw cacao powder – absolutely delicious!! I have 3 autoimmune conditions that affect my energy levels and have noticed a difference just after a couple of weeks! Check out the Spunky coconut website for more details (should add, that it is NOT my website, nor do I have any personal interest in it)
Glenda
i also have multiple autoimmune issues – would love that shake recipe. i am always disappointed in flavor or texture of most recipes. thanks:)
I love both whole and hulled hemp seed. I eat them pretty well every day. I just made the kids hulled hemp seed pudding which is just water, hulled hemp seed, cinnamon and cocoa in the blender.
I get my seeds from http://www.hempseed.ca as the product is always fresh, I can buy in bulk and they only sell organic!
What is the best way to hull the hemp seeds?
Hii can u suggest some ways i can input hemp seeds in my diet
i am not a big fan of shakes
also whats the shelf life of hemp seeds .. its been sitting in my fridge for 2-3 months now
thanks
There is a company that makes a great hemp granola, or you could make your own! Or sprinkle some in your cereal, mix it in to baking recipes- like muffins… Put it in some trail mix maybe? This is just a few ideas, I’m sure you can get creative and have fun with it 🙂
Sprinkle on all types of food such as pasta, veggie burgers, and even in peanut butter sandwiches.
Hi, what a great article!
I was just wondering if you should soak hemp seeds prior to eating them?
No need to soak the seeds. They’re tiny and tasty out of the bag.
Is refrigeration necessary?
Flaxseeds have to be kept in the dark in a sealed container in the fridge because they go rancid easily due to oxidization. They must be ground before consumption to get the nutritional benefits as the seeds whole in form pass through the system.
Hemp seeds on the other hand don’t say anything about oxidization and don’t say they go rancid. I would keep them in their airtight pouch and in the fridge. It can’t hurt to keep them cool. But this is only a thought. weighing up the information on the care of flaxseeds. Hope this helps.
waar kan ek dit koop, en is dit die selde goed wat hulle so week of twee op RSG oor gepraat het
Let’s call a spade a spade, sh’all we? The real truth behind the word “Marijuana:”
Marijuana is the new-term for “marihuana,” which is actually less of a “term” and more of a weapon of propaganda used in the 30s to elicit fear from racist Southern voters.
Thanks to the widespread propaganda of “reefer” madness and it’s extended blunders, the nation’s first drug czar, Harry J. Anslinger, Former Head of Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN, later formed portion of D.E.A.) told voters their (white) children were at risk of being sexually active with or raped, beaten, and murdered by so-called “crazed” “satanic” and “degenerate” (minority) races high on cannabis, the non-toxic and Ancient herb dressed up as PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE. He was no-doubt racist. Nixon followed suit in antics saying “all legalizers are Jewish” (paraphrase). Between the two of them, they lasso’d weed into the international drug-war web (e.g. Single Convention on Narcotics Act of UN circa Anslinger and Controlled Substances Act circa Nixon).
Now, you know, hemp is hemp, a low THC-yielding form of cannabis, and marijuana is kind of like the N word, i.e. it’s largely a made-up word meant at one time to subjugate minorities to blatant or insidious forms of racism and greed.
Does Hemp seeds have any effect on bloood thinners?
A shop keeper once told me the self life, once opened, is pretty short. How have your experiences been folks?
*shelf life
ive been eating these for years. as a vegetarian, it is an easy and delicious way to get protein. that part about their short shelf life is nonsense, just keep them in a dry place and it will be fine. i buy them direct from the grower – its cheaper in the long run – in ten kilo boxes.
i made them into a pesto sauce and it was outrageously tasty. i eat them for breakfast. sprinkled on peanut butter. baked into breads. on a salad. id @#$%ing eat them anytime. there cant possibly be a drawback from a natural grown product like this. like they say – if its green its good.
Just started eating hemp seeds from Whole Foods. They are very expensive per pound but are packed with nutrition and that’s why we decided to give them a try. We’ve always used flax seeds in the past, but we decided to add hemp seeds into the mix as well. Have only tried them with a few breakfast meals so far. Planning on using them more often.
I am wondering about enzyme inhibitors- there must be some in hemp seeds, right? Will heat kill these? Or should they be soaked in a little salted water? You said previously that it is not necessary to soak them, and i see they contain no phytic acid which is awesome, but what about the enzyme inhibitors?
Thanks
No need to soak hemp seeds as they don’t contain phytic acid. Costco has organic hemp hearts for $15 for a 28 oz bag. They have a little different texture in that they are soft and almost melty in your mouth. I add them to almond butter with a little coconut sugar and use it as an apple spread.

In dubai where i can buy hemp seeds?
I have had severe M.E. (or CFS) for the past 27 months, which has been dreadful. Recently my son advised me to start taking shelled hemp seeds which you can buy from most health food shops , as id seen a product on line called M.E.RELIEF.As my son has done a sports therapy degree nutrition was a large part of this, and after him looking at the components which are in it he said that the proteins are the same as found in high doses in HEMP SEEDS.
So i have been taking a few teaspoons of the HEMP SEEDS mixed with a few teaspoons of natural desiccated coconut (for added flavour) throughout the day for a month now and have been amazed by the lessening of many of my symptoms. My night sweats have practically disappeared…my energy levels seem to be stablising above anything they have been since i became ill…and i generally look and feel so much better!!!
Im not saying its a miracle cure or anything as daft as that, however there has been nothing else that i can attribute this to.So even if your 100% well it can only help to keep you that way, or if your like me maybe help to start bringing your body back to being more balanced!
Just wanted to let people know that no matter how refined hemp seed is it will make you pop positive for THC in a urine drug test.
Well, apparantly Nutiva guarantees theirs won’t make you show positive and they are sold on Vitacost.com at a decent price. If you order from them, give them my email address as your referral and we’ll both get a $10 coupon! sdroberts63@yahoo.com
I do love hemp seeds and have been using it as about 50% of my diet. In the morning I mix it up with bee pollen and together I get an incredible assortment of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and a spectrum of phytonutrients. This is the best I’ve eaten in a long time….it somehow has kept me from wanting any processed foods.

just started using hemp seeds mixed with quinoa for breakfast
is it psycological that i seem to have more energy?
i started using it to help me with digestion since i had a gall bladder removed many years ago

This maybe a stupid question, but I’m going to ask anyway. Will eating these seeds cause a positive test for marijuana on a drug screen?
See Sonia’s comment above made on 2/28
Then see my reply to Sonia’s comment. May help.
The difference between hemp and majiwanna is one is dried out and one is not it only becomes weed when dried out. I have added the seeds to my diet and have been having a cup of hemp tea for only a few days yet I’m feeling more awake my concentration is better and I feel less stressed, which is great as I suffer with depression and have been trying to find something more natural to try rather then using man made chemical, which have nasty side effects so fingers crossed see how it goes.
That is like saying rosemary becomes lavender when it dries out.
Hemp is just a term for the strains of the marijuana plant without psychoactive properties (lower THC). Usually grown for fiber, seed and oil.
Only the leaf can get you “stoned”.
All marijuana strain’s seeds are about equally as nutritious and DO NOT contain Enzyme inhibitors like soy etc.
WRONG!…it is NOT correct to say “Only the leaf can get you “stoned”.”…
Hemp is the (mostly) natural form of cannabis sativa / indica /ruderalis, which is grown tall, and densely planted, for long fibers, and seeds. Hemp has a VERY LOW “thc” content. “Delta-9-tetrahydrocannibinol”, and other similar compounds, is the chemical in “marijauna” which causes the “high” of “pot”, or “weed”. You can NOT get “high” from smoking hemp. And, in “weed”, it is typically the dried FLOWERS which are smoked for the “high”. Yes, you can get “stoned” from smoking “marijuana leaf”, but it will be less than from smoking the dried flowers, or the concentrated resins and oils.
Hemp is the industrial version, “weed”, or “pot” is the the “drug” version, and quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of the PROPAGANDA, and IGNORANCE around what should be a simple subject. Shame on the Federal Gov’t, and the D.E.A., for making a “DRUG” out of a food and medicine plant…It should ALL be LEGAL…
Can the seeds be eaten with the hulls on? I’m thinking added fiber.
I love hemp seed! I always feel fantastic after I eat a few bites of these super nutritious seeds. They don’t have a very strong flavor, so you can eat them with almost anything. I eat the seeds with yogurt, on top of almond butter with apples, in cereal, and in smoothies.
Great article sadly spoiled by the prejudiced and stereotypical depict of the ‘pot smoking hippies’.
I agree. You get the feeling the author is saying to be reeeaaaallly careful bc you might get high or they might be bad for you. All that homework should have been done before writing the article.
I’ve had digestion issues since having my gall bladder removed a few years ago. Slowly I have worked out a diet that has fixed the issues without medication. My latest additions are goji berries on my morning Kashi (with blueberries and bananas) and hemp and chia to my lunch salads. I’m on about week three and have seen another layer of “correction” to my issues. I would say I’m pretty darn close to pre-surgical levels at this point. Boring eating habits? Yes but it is better than the way I suffered before!
I couldn’t thank you enough for the time and effort you put in to educating us about hemp seed. I usually add a table spoon full to my blend of fresh vegetables for breakfast now, I am going to increase it to 3 or 4. I found that since I have been adding hemp seed to my meal, my overall health has got much better and no visits to the GP for years except for the annual heckups
Ive been eating hemp seeds for about 2 weeks with my salad and have lost 12 pounds!.. Ive never had so much energy and the feeling of being full for way longer then 6 hours of my day!. I have nothing but postive feelings towards hemp seed!..
Does hemp have lectins? I’ve found it hard to find studies on that.
Eat Hemp Seeds – Lose Weight – It’s that Easy!
I have a college athlete living in my home and would wonder if ingesting the salted hemp seed in a granola would cause a drug test to show positive for substance use. I know drug testing has been altered, over time, for poppy seeds.
Many years ago my grandfather worked on a prestige horse stud. He told me that all the horses were in immaculate condition, their coats gleaming in the sunlight, and always first prize winners at local and international horse breeders compititions. After working closely with the high strung owner for many years, he confided in my grandfather the secret to his horses exquisite health… Ten fat hemp seeds to be chewed in the morning before exercise and in the afternoon after exercise.
Amazingly I’ve decided to think myself to be a horse and tried to do the same with 5 seeds instead of the prescribed 10. The result is beyond belief: my skin is more lustrous and supple, hair is softer and more nourished, fingernails lost those streaky ripples, increased clarity of thought and boosted libido and overall vitality. All without supplements and meaty proteins.
This is certainly the ultimate superfood and essential addition to any vegetarians’ diet.
Cosmic light to you all!
Another plus is that hemp lowers the Low Density Lipids in Cholesterol. I was told you would have to smoke an 8 foot length of 4″ Hemp rope to get a buzz, but by then you would be coughing your rotted lungs out!
I love hemp seeds. It’s way more natural than meat and without the hormones, antibiotics, and other crap so I don’t understand the slight doubt at the end. It doesn’t need to be researched, we have all the information on what it contains and how it affects the body. It doesn’t hurt the body. It’s just kind of silly to give all this great information about what a miracle seed it is and then doubt it because of research, a lot of research is manipulated to make people turn away from anything related to cannabis. There is tons of research you have to look into yourself that supports these seeds because you’re not gonna find it anywhere mainstream. There are doctors who spend much of their lives studying cannabis and you can see many videos and articles of them discussing the benefits (which are pretty much endless). I’m anemic and I stay away from meat because it’s so bad for you in so many ways (and horrible for digestion), I can throw hemp seeds on anything and get so much protein and other benefits. It should definitely replace meat sources. Meat is harmful, that’s a fact, hemp isn’t lol. That’s just a silly way to end the article, sorry.
i ordered a packet of hempseeds from vitacost and it had a printed stamp on it saying that the led content is higher than acceptable and should not be used by pregnant women or those with compromised immune systems. now granted i live in california which had higher standards of accepting such standards. the country of origin on this packet is canada and was shipped from north carolina. will appreciate your thoughts.
Legalize and thenourishinggourmet.com will advertize it!
All jokes aside i think it is time for everyone to start being more tolerant towards this lovely plant that they have made illegall because big companies cant put a patent on it!
Also it was found on solomons grave…..
long term studies??? hows about 10, 000 plus years of human consumption!et
set hemp free!
I am doing a 3 day toxin cleanse I got from the Doctor Oz show, and the smoothies call for flax seeds which I do not have on hand. Can I substitute my hemp seeds? I have heard that Omega 3 is a good antinflammatory, but Omega 6 may contribute to inflammation problems. I am trying to get off of my meds and don’t want hemp seeds to set me back. I have been using hemp seed hearts for a couple months for added protein. I saw in a blog that flax seed contains an element that hemp seeds do not (phytoestogens?)
great article. Can you tell me if Hemp is insoluable fiber, or soluable fiber? I took 2 tablespoons of hemp a day for a month (because I have to stay gluten and rice free) but developed chronic diarrhea. Want to know if hemp could be the culprit. If it’s mostly insoluable fiber, it might be the culprit.
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.
Can a person test positive in a urine drug test by consuming this product?
I don’t use marijuana products at all but a friend who recently passed away did, medically. She also used hemp seeds regularly as part of her dietary regimen after being diagnosed with liver cancer. She bought organic sprouts, goat dairy products, kefir and heirloom veggies from us. I was suspect as I had never heard of them before and didn’t want any side “bennies” from hemp, but after a cursory search decided to try them. I was amazed at how good they taste. Someone in the comments above stated they taste kind of like pine nuts. I don’t agree with that as I’m a pine nut addict and nothing “nutty” compares to pine nuts, but they run a good taste race in my opinion. I started by adding them to smoothies. We’re a family of true omnivores and rarely eat breads or processed foods, so nuts and seeds are high on my grocery list. I love their diversity in cooking. I put hemp seeds in curries, veggie dishes, soups, bisques, as casserole toppers and even eat them alone as they are not only delicious but I find that within the hour my energy levels are up. I tend to be a picker and nibbler and these little seeds are perfect for that sort of eating lifestyle. They’re versatile, tasty either raw or toasted and compliment a myriad of dishes. Instead of a bowl of ice cream for late night munchies toss a few “hempies.” Thanks for the article. More people need to learn about these wonderful, healthful seeds.
