If you are only going to make cookies once a year, Christmas is definitely the right time. What would Christmas be without a little cookie cheer? Certainly not as sweet. Below are some of my favorite cookie recipes. Several use sprouted flour, and others are grain as well as gluten free. And all are made with natural sweeteners. Enjoy!

Gingerbread Men is definitely a holiday cookie favorite. These delicious cookies are made with sprouted flour and sweetened with molasses and whole cane sugar (or sugar of choice).

Also made out of sprouted flour these shortbread cookies are perfect. Buttery, slightly sweet, and a bit crumbly. Everything I ask for in a shortbread cookie.

Sweet almond cookies are completely dairy free as they use coconut oil.  The base is actually just ground almonds (done in a food processor) so they are a grain and gluten free cookie! They are also delicious and are a popular cookie here on The Nourishing Gourmet.

These tasty Spiced Macaroons remind me of gingerbread and my husband of oatmeal cookies. They are perfect for this time of year! I think that they would make a great substitute for a gluten free, or grain free dieter who wants to have “oatmeal” cookies. Spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and sweetened with evaporated palm (coconut) sugar or rapadura, which has a molasses like flavor, these cookies are perfect for this time of year.

Gingersnaps (sweetened with coconut sugar or rapadura) with warming spices and laced with molasses, served with a nice glass of milk, just about puts me into a holiday cookie seventh heaven. These cookies are dark with the flavor of molasses and spice.

Flourless Nut Butter cookies are simply a snap to throw together and so yummy too! The base is nut butter, and then you add just one egg, a sweetener and some vanilla.  Another great gluten and grain free cookie that everyone can enjoy. In the original recipe I added cocoa nibs. In the above photo, you see some sprinkle added to the top.

I would love to hear what cookies you like to make this time of year! Any favorite recipes?

Your cookies look so yummy! I am sharing a recipe for gingerbread people (girls and boys). I made them healthier by using sprouted wheat flour, Rapadura and organic butter. The icing to decorate is made with cream cheese sweetened with honey and colored with natural dyes.
    Enjoy!

I’ve made cookies before, but my latest favorite to make and give at Christmas is southern spicy cheese straws. :O)

tonight i’m going to try making a healthier version of my favorite cookie that my grandma used to make for christmas!! she calls them florentines – unfortunately her recipe calls for white sugar and simple sugar syrup (and she uses margarine). instead i’m going to use rapadura, maple syrup and butter. the other ingredients are finely chopped almonds (i’ll use the soaked dehydrated ones i always make sure to have on hand) and oats (i’m not gonna bother soaking them, though) – they make lovely lace-like thin, round, crisp, nutty cookies. for extra luxury they can be decorated with a thin layer of melted, dark chocolate. i’ll let you know how they turn out!
oh, and thank you so much for a very inspirational site – i’ve used it a lot the past year since i, little by little, started treading the path of traditionally prepared foods!

We enjoy Grandma’s Molasses Cookies, Russian Tea Cakes, and Sugar cookies dipped in dark and white chocolate at Christmas. We avoid sugar otherwise, but at Christmastime, we want the real deal. I make just a few so they are not hanging around very long. Your Sweet Almond Cookies look yummy, I’ll be passing that recipe along to my friend who needs gluten-free treats 🙂

Currently I am loving these cookies that I started developing last year, and perfected this year!

I made your gingerbread men last week, and loved them so much! This was my first experiment with sprouting wheat, and I think it went really well. I made the thicker, softer ones, because I love soft cookies. They turned out perfectly! My husband couldn’t believe they weren’t made with white flour! And he is a cookie-afficionado, so I am thrilled. Thanks so much for sharing your recipes!

I made leftover oatmeal cookies today with no added flour! They are nice and chewy and take advantage of proper soaking and excess breakfast. Mmmm! I love cookies!

I like to make traditional Spice Bread. It is like spice cake without butter or sugar. The only ingredients are rye flour, water, honey, baking soda, orange peel and green anise. Void of sugar and butter, it is neither too sweet or heavy. I will have to post it after I make it this weekend! I
