I am still recovering. Thanks so much for the kind words. I appreciate it. Hopefully soon I will be able to delve into the many planned and exciting posts I have on the back burner.  Meanwhile, I wanted to share with you  a recent photoshoot we had with a long time friend. I have many friends very talented in photography, and Christa Taylor is one of my favorites. I told her that I would be glad to write about her beautiful photography if she would do a photoshoot with Joel and I. We couldn’t be more pleased with how they turned out and it was awfully fun working with her as well.

By the way, if you were interested in having her do your wedding but don’t live in Oregon or Washington, she does travel as well. So keep that in mind! Here are some more photos as well as my interview with her. Enjoy!

Christa, you weren’t originally focused on photography. How did you discover your love and talent in this area?

As a fashion designer, I had acute paranoia for all electronic gadgets and computers. It was a near miracle that induced me to pick up a camera to shoot our new fashion collection. Ever since then the love has developed from a trickle to a torrent- the talent is still in progress 😉

What would you consider your “style” of photography?

Journalistic. I love telling stories, capturing the moment. Helping you, the viewer, enter that very moment- be a part of the story yourself.

What type of shoots do you normally do? Do you have a specialty?

Weddings and portraits are the bread and butter of my current photography schedule. The creme de la creme is the album covers, fashion collections, and istock work.

I loved how you took Joel and I out to different locations for our photo shoot. What are your favorite locations to shoot at?

My favorite locations are far more difficult to reach than a car-ride downtown. Some treacherously gorgeous spots in the NW hills are favs as well as a few spots on the Columbia Gorge. So beautiful, so epic!

I also loved the different “moments” you caught. Like this moment. What is your strategy in capturing moments such as this?

My goal is to give you a guys a scenario, or feeling to pick up on. For example, “[Kimmy and Joel] you guys are going to sit here, like Joel just got home from work, the kids are still napping and you get to just enjoy one another” Often I’ll give the guy some little suggestions “Joel, play with her hair a bit” – I start shooting, and you guys are just being yourselves.

I’ve been admiring your recent wedding photography. That’s a challenging venue. What has your experience been thus far as a wedding photographer?

Overwhelmingly positive, even had a client pay me more than contract, they were so pleased. My second shooter, Bianca and I have been having a ball. Weddings are so high-adrenaline, always on your toes, it’s contagious.

Do you have an all time favorite photo of yours that I can share with my readers?

It’s hard to choose one, this photo was from a shoot for Unveiled Bridal Designs.

With food blogs, such as mine, many of us have had to learn the basics ourselves. Any words of advice for food photography?

I was talking to a pro food-photographer last week that works for 3 of the major food mags in the States. He recommended the obvious 1) Use Natural light (place the food by a window if no other options) 2) invest in a macro lens or Lens baby . 3) Shoot fast. Food is alive and has a “moment” if you delay, it’s over and you’re back to the beginning.

Thanks Christa! You are a dear. And readers, doesn’t she do beautiful work?

oh those photos are just terrific – love the one where you husband has his hand on your face. So sweet and romantic. Marriage is the best!!! But I adore the last photo of you in the black dress – frame that one and put it in your living room!!! Right out of a magazine.

Congrats to the two beautiful models 🙂

These are lovely pictures…I went to her site and she does some really lovely work – I am sad though to see so many of the clothes so immodest and worldly. As Christians we are called to dress modest and also different than the world. I wish more people would understand that and pray about it and seek Gods will for them.
She has a real eye for great pictures. She captures the moment!
