All-Natural Fudged-Topped Cookies (or Graham Crackers)

I take my silky, no cook Maple Fudge, and use it as a layer on top of graham crackers (or you could use cookies). A few sprinkles later, and these festive little bits of goodness are ready to go and addictive! Plus, this idea is so easy to adapt to gluten, dairy, egg-free cookie recipes, or to paleo recipes!

I had two hours to make something to bring to a party, get my kids ready to go and change my clothes, and eat dinner. Inspiration hit, and this is what I brought. My daughter, who couldn’t eat a lot of other items at the party, probably ate more then her fair share of them, but thankfully I brought enough to share. One little boy ate at least 4, so I would say that they were a hit! I won’t say how many I ate while making them. 🙂

This was especially fast to throw together as I put the fudge in a thin layer in a container and then stuck it in the freezer for about 20 minutes to harden. I had happened to buy some delicious gluten-free graham crackers from Oregon Cracker Company, so I just had to slice, place, and sprinkle and the whole project was done!

I know that many of us are getting together with friends, or going to parties this Christmas season, and I loved how quick (and delicious) this was, so I thought I would share it with you too. The great thing about this, is that the fudge can soften in a warm room, so by placing it on a cracker or cookie, you are allowing guests to enjoy the fudge without worrying about getting melted chocolate all over their hands.

I can imagine this with a lot of different cookies, like fudge-topped shortbread or fudge topped gingersnaps. Yum! Really the idea is highly adaptable. You can easily make it paleo by using paleo cookies as the fudge can also easily be paleo.

One more thing, let’s talk about sprinkles. We generally use Let’s Do Sprinkelz (affiliate links) which are gluten-free and use organic ingredients and natural foods to dye them. They aren’t brilliantly dyed, but a bit muted. We love them! The beautiful ones above are from India Tree. Now India Tree has a wide variety of sprinkles and decorating items. Some are naturally dyed and wonderful, some are not naturally dyed (if you go to their website, you can see what ingredients are in each individual one). I had let my daughter pick one out for Christmas at the store, not realizing that the one she picked was full of ingredients (like dye) that I normally would never let her have. However, in the end, I decided that we were only using a little of it, and that it would be an “exception” for the holidays. Using sprinkles has helped her tremendously, as it makes her feel that her treats are special. She is sometimes sad at parties and such if she can’t have the food, but having her own so pretty looking has made her feel much better about it. It is amazing what sprinkles will do for a child!

However, I learned recently that it is super easy to make your own colored sugar to use for decorating! Just use a natural dye (like India Tree Natural Decorating Colors Set) and dye natural whole cane sugar, coconut sugar, etc. I am going to try it. 🙂

And I do recommend using sprinkles. Look at the before and after sprinkle pictures. Before they don’t look half as festive! (Though they were just as delicious without!). Perhaps you could toast some unsweetened coconut flakes and sprinkle it on instead if you didn’t have sprinkles?

This is so simple, besides getting the very easy fudge recipe, I don’t think I need write out a recipe for you. Just have fun with it!

One tip: The sprinkles will stick to the fudge well, you just need to use a finger to gently press down on the sprinkles to push it slightly into the fudge.
