I have been enjoying working with fall food again. There is something so comforting and beautiful about it. The warm spices, the creamy comfort food, the hot soup, the squashes, pumpkins, and apples are all favorites of mine.
This year I will be sharing more fall recipes (some coming up this week), but I’ve also been enjoying making recipes from the past few years. Here are some of my recipes from the archives. Enjoy.
Yellow Lentil, Kale and Italian Sausage Soup
This soup is simple to make, beautiful with contrasting colors and packed with flavor. A favorite of everyone in my family.
Garam Masala Lentil Soup with Coconut Milk
Rich and creamy with the wonderful warming spices of garam masala, this is a soup we make often. It’s so frugal too!
Sausage, Potato and Squash Soup
A lovely way to use in season squash. Paired with potatoes, vegetables and sausage, this is a warming soup for a chilly evening.
Garlicky White Beans with Dark Greens
This soup has a garlicky broth with little specks of oregano floating among the beans, and a beautiful reddish tint from tomato paste. And, in contrast to the beans, gently simmered dark greens. Delicious and nutritious!
Don’t let the simple title fool you, this soup has complex flavor layers. You have the sweetness of the carrots, the richness of the broth, the savoriness of the celery root paired with celery, and spiced with dill seed. Delicious, creamy (without cream) soup. A fun way to make fries and so much more nutritious too! These baked fries are softer than potato fries and sweeter too. Made from butternut squash, they are even safe for many people on special diets! We make them when we are on the GAPS diet, or when we aren’t.
Super flavorful potatoes, these are fun to serve for dinner, brunch or breakfast along side scrambled eggs and sausage.
Turkey (or Chicken) Apple Sausage
SO fun. This recipe was sent to me by a reader and we’ve all loved it! Dried apples and sage flavor the sausage for a lovely fall flavor.
Crockpot Whole Grain Hot Cereal
A great way to start the day is to wake up to a crockpot full of hot cereal! And yes, it’s soaked! Fall may be beautiful but it’s also busy, this gives you a head start in the morning.
A recent recipe that is as simple as can be but seriously good. We eat them plain or topped on pancakes (like Soaked Fluffy Whole Grain Pancakes)
Beautiful and both tangy and sweet. This is a great way to end a meal topped with a bit of whipped cream perhaps!
Pumpkin Pie Coconut Milk Ice Cream
A must try for those who like pumpkin pie! This ice cream has all of the flavors of pumpkin pie in frozen form.
My latest recipe on this blog, these cookies are easy to make and perfect for the fall and winter.
Russian Gingerbread Thumbprint Cookies
Old-fashioned, lower fat and sugar thumbprint cookies-based off of an Russian recipe. Great fun and yummy too.
Decadent goodness. What else can I say? These nuts are addicting. Make at your own risk.
Maple Honey Pumpkin Pie (with coconut milk)
Seriously good pumpkin pie that everyone will like. Sweet enough to satisfy even the sweet tooths of the family.
Roasted Banana Ice Dream with Fudge Sauce
This ice cream can be made anytime, but it’s nice during the Fall too. Caramelized bananas make the base, paired with coconut milk and finished off with a chocolate sauce. Yummy.
Spice Apple Muffins (Dairy, Grain and Gluten Free)
Made with coconut flour, these muffins are packed with spices and apples. If any recipe speaks Fall, this one does!
Simple crackers spiked with rosemary. These are lovely with a cheese plate.
Craving gingerbread, but don’t want something so unhealthy? These muffins are made with soaked flour and natural sweeteners. Spiced and delicious.
Oh, yummy. I love putting pumpkin into baked goods. It makes it moist and oh so good. Check out these great fall Muffins!
Perfect to send in lunches, for a mid-day snack, or a hike. You gotta love honey sweetened, gluten and grain free nut bars!
Fresh chestnuts are in season right now and if you’ve never had freshly roasted ones you are missing out. Last year, these became a great favorite of ours. A traditional snack or part of the meal.
A delicious and cheap way to feed a crowd or large family, I love this recipe because you make it way before you have to serve it. A family recipe.
Butternut Squash Spaghetti Sauce
Pasta can be topped with more than tomato sauce! This sauce is delicious!

Hi, a couple general questions as I’ve been re-reading some past posts: I don’t have a local source for raw milk (nor for organic). I’ve made my own yogurt but this is made with store bought organic yogurt as a starter and then regular cow’s milk (not raw) for the rest. Is this worthwhile or would I be better off just buying store-bought organic yogurt?
Also, I’ve read information talking about the dangers of soy products but what about organic soy milk? I’ve wondered if this would be better for my family than homogenized dairy (which I’ve greatly cut back but not entirely eliminated).

The only thing that is better about organic soy milk is that it doesn’t have GMO’s in it. However soy milk will still not be a nutritious choice as it’s very high in anti-nutrients, is hard to digest, and there are hormonal issues there as well. You can make your own nut milks or use coconut milk though!
As far as the yogurt question, I know it’s so much cheaper to make your own, but most organic yogurt is better. Look for organic brands that mention that the cows are grass fed for the best of the best. 🙂

As far as coconut milk goes…we like to buy the powdered coconut milk from WFN. IMO, it has a much better taste to it than the canned options. It does have a small amount of casein in it which they say most folks can handle (probably not if you are really sensitive, though).

I love fall. We have a favorite butternut squash soup with chipotle and sage and a red lentil dal we also love this time of year. Of course anything pumpkin will be welcomed as well.

I am going to be moving in with my in laws, and look forward to cooking some yummy fall recipes from this blog for all of them. When it is just me and my husband he won’t eat some of my cooking. You know the green stuff, or onions. With more pallets I should be able to cook a better variety. Thanks for sharing! By the way, every recipe I try of your turns out wonderful!
