Norwex Green Cleaning Giveaway! ($117 value)

November 2, 2012 by KimiHarris 337 Comments

Ever wish you could not only spend less time cleaning, but also clean in a more earth- and kid-friendly way? Well, then this giveaway is for you.

Sometimes I wish that I could just concentrate on my cooking projects and never clean. Sometimes my house looks like I really follow through with that wish (within 24 hours of cleaning it all!). The other day I was mopping and my two year old was pulling out chips and eating them behind me. By the time I was done, I literally had to sweep again. That is the reality of house cleaning with the young children in the house all day!

To compound the problem, since we moved into the city, my housecleaning work has tripled. I am convinced that the air is just “dirtier” here, as griminess quickly falls on nearly dusted shelves, cleaned toilets and cover my hard wood floors. Where I lived before, I could get away with cleaning the whole house thoroughly once a week, and just touch up here and there. I have really needed to figure out a faster, more efficient way to clean; otherwise I would always be behind.

A really good solution has been some of the Norwex cleaning products. They allow me to clean effectively, quickly, and very non-toxically. This has been so important for me during this trying time of being “bone tired”. The very last thing I want is for my housecleaning to be harder then it should be, and by cleaning quickly, I have more energy and time for cooking. They’re a couple of reasons why I can whole-heartedly recommend these products, which I will go through below. But first, I’d like to talk about why you should use all-natural cleaning products.

someecards.com - Let's double our grocery budget to buy organically, and then use harsh, toxic cleaners everyday to poison ourselves anyways

Living a healthy life-style is so much more than buying good food (though I believe that is vital), but I think that we need a more holistic viewpoint. Getting proper sleep, using natural personal care products, and yes, using natural house cleaning products are all important parts of a healthy lifestyle. I was just reading one story of one family whose child had mysterious health issues. The solution for them was removing all cleaners, candles, and other sources of artificial scents and harsh chemicals from their house. They used one of those plug in house scents, which they discovered especially bothered their child’s breathing.

My doctor not only examines diet and uses medical tests to see what it happening beneath the surface of symptoms but he also hands out information on cosmetics and household cleaners as he understands that a holistic lifestyle is needed for good health. Household cleaners often have carcinogenic, endocrine disrupting, neurotoxin ingredients that could be harmful not only if a child (or adult) had direct skin or internal contact to the product, but some of those chemicals can also be absorbed through the fumes of the cleaner. Some of these toxic ingredients wouldn’t be a problem to be exposed to a couple of times, but over time, since the body may not be able to expel them well, they can accumulate.

The thing is, it is so easy to “green clean”. When I got married I cleaned almost everything with baking soda and vinegar. Doesn’t get much cheaper then that. But I have to say, that Norwex products provide even better results!

So let’s look at the three reasons I like the Norwex products.

1. They are easy to use

I have a confession to make. I actually have an extremely nice steam cleaner that I adore. It’s a Ladybug steam cleaner, and yes, it was very expensive. It uses dry-steam, and is very effective. HOWEVER, it is a little cumbersome to use. When I realized that my wood floor needed to be mopped more than once a week, I was a little overwhelmed. A much more inexpensive mop that is also very effective in cleaning floors is the microfiber mop from Norwex. Because they have so many fibers per inch, they do an excellent job picking up dirt and bacteria. Plus, they are much lighter and easier to use. With no carpet in our downstairs, the Norwex mop has been a lifesaver (or at least a grimy floor saver!). I love a couple of things about it. 1. It is lightweight. 2. It uses only water to clean. 3. It is very sturdy and I expect it to last a long time. 4. I love the design. It was purposely made with a wide mop head so that over stubborn areas, you can simply exert pressure with your foot on the mop. It makes those difficult areas pretty effortless! Design is so important for a mop and I love this mop. Plus, it also has a specific pad for dry dusting the floors, which is great for hardwood flours, especially. It takes a very short amount of time to mop using it.

Look at how much dirt my mop picked up with a quick mop, just four days after mopping previously!

The household Package I tried out has a cloth for windows, an all-purpose cloth and a dusting mitt, all of which work extremely well. Checkout the picture below for how well the glass cloth works!  I loooved the dusting mitt. We live in an older house (with some concerns of lead paint), so you want to make sure you really pick up all of the dust and don’t stir it up. These really work well for our specific needs.

2. They are completely non-toxic

These products are completely non-toxic to use in your home, making them not only great for you to use, but also they are wonderful because your kids can safely use them too! Just think about all of the toxins you are eliminating from your home when you switch out conventional house cleaning products for something like the Norwex products.

3. They are worth the extra cost.

Before I agreed to test out these products, I asked Katie, the Norwex consultant I am working with, about the cost of the products. While reasonable in comparison to say, steam cleaners, they were a little more expensive then some other microfiber brands. This is what she had to say, ““Norwex is unlike any other microfiber on the market. In order to be called ” micro fiber ” each fiber of a cloth is 1/6th the size of a human hair, (like taking a hair and splitting it in 6) Those fibers tend to still be too large, and on a microscopic level they just push the dirt and germs around. Norwex microfiber is 1/100th of a human hair, and the fiber is so small that it grabs the dirt & germs and removes them from the surface. To demonstrate how well they work, in my home parties, I take raw chicken and rub it all over the counter tops. I have test strips that are used in the restaurant industry to test for protein and bacteria and I test the chicken surface and, of course, it shows bacteria, and then I wipe the area just using water and our cloth, and test the area again, and the test has always come back clean. As added protection, all of our antibac clothes have silver woven throughout the cloth, so that the germs that the cloth picks up don’t breed and make your rag stink. The silver does not allow the single celled organism to exchange oxygen outside of the cell membrane (in other words they die before breeding.) There is a long history of using silver for this purpose (colloidal silver). Our polishing clothes will shine a mirror or window better than Windex. Another demonstration I do in my home parties, is to take butter and rub it on a mirror and then try to take it off with paper towels and Windex, it leaves it a streaky mess, then I take our enviro cloth and our polishing cloth and wipe it clean in seconds and it’s perfect.”

Look at the right window pane in comparison to the left. It took maybe 10 seconds at most to clean that window pane despite how filthy it was!  It was pretty amazing.

Finally, I wanted to mention that the Norwex spokeswoman I am linking to, Katie, is a regular reader here. I am not charging her for this giveaway because I both love and believe in the products she is selling, but I also am glad to support women in their business ventures. I was very happy to both try out her products, and run this giveaway with her. I think these products are well worth buying, and I’ve love for you to support her home business as well.

So, this is what Katie is giving away to our readers. She is giving away….

1. One Household Package:  This includes the dusting mitt, that window cloth and the enviro cloth. These three clothes will help you with many of your household chores. This package is worth $46.99

2. One Kid’s Package: Because it’s both safe, and good for your kids to be involved in the household chores! Having their own set of cloths will help them feel involved. This package is worth $79.99

These products sound amazing. Having enjoyed ten years of domestic support our house-cleaner has decided to retire. We are on our own and finding it challenging to clean our large house in a green and mindful way. What a joy to find an eco-friendly range of products to fight the grime. I would love to win these.

I love Norwex! I recently hosted a party and received and purchased some items. I totally agree with all the reasons you enjoy it, too. I want to lessen our toxic load of anything in our house. I am slowly working on some issues, which came to light after some blood/saliva testing I had done when we had been trying to conceive for over a year unsuccessfully. I am trying not to overwhelm my husband all at once or with too much investment, so would love to win some Norwex!
