Introducing Aria Sono Harris

October 24, 2010 by KimiHarris 138 Comments

I have a precious little bundle asleep next to me right now who introduced herself to my arms last Tuesday at 9:49 p.m. I am so thankful to God for Aria and for a safe (but eventful) birth. She is a mellow and sweet newborn ( and I happen to think she is very beautiful too). Her name, Aria, means “beautiful melody” and Sono means “flower garden”. Sono is my husband’s mother’s name. She passed away during the middle of this pregnancy and we miss her sorely.

I know that some of you will be curious about her birth, here is just a very short version of the story. After having mild labor at home most of Tuesday, I finally became convinced that I was truly in labor in the evening. By the time we got to the birthing center I was feeling pretty far along in the labor process, and sure enough, Aria was born in less then two hours! To make it even more exciting she was a surprise breech baby. My midwife handled everything wonderfully, and I was able to deliver her safely and quickly, though having her breech definitely made it more tense at times.

I am on bed rest for a while to help me recover and heal, so things may be a bit quiet here on my blog the next few weeks, though I do have some preplanned posts coming up in our plastic free series.

Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy this new addition to our family!

Congratulations! I am so jealous.. I am at 38.5 weeks and am ready for my baby to come. You are so lucky to have a wonderful midwife and birth center where they allowed you to give birth to a breech baby naturally. Around here, that would be an automatic C-section. Midwifes aren’t “allowed” by law to perform breech births and the hospitals all have “policies” against it. I hate it! Thank god my little bundle is head down.. crossing my fingers she stays that way!

Wow! What a beautiful daughter and precious name!

I have been reading your blog for awhile . . . but I never made the connection before! I had no idea you were related to Gregg and Sono Harris! What a huge blessing!!! Gregg Harris was very instrumental in my decision to homeschool and was a big influence in my life as a young homeschool mother!

    Many blessings on your family!

    CONGRATS HARRIS FAMILY!

That is a beautiful, fitting name for such a lovely looking baby girl. How nice that you, like me named her for her late Grandmother. My wish for my daughter is that she turn out to be just as wonderful as her namesake. I am sure you feel the same. This is the first I have heard of a natural breech birth- but I am happy for both of you that it was able to happen. I am sure it was not easy at all- so rest rest rest. Sometime later when you are feeling more yourself it would be very inspiring to hear more details. I am sure I am not the only woman who never thought it was an option… but I did ask my midwife about a week before my daughter was born.. she said she had NEVER had to deliver a breech because you can just “reach in and turn the baby around, just like what you should do if the cord is around babes neck”. My daugther turned at the LAST MINUTE thankfully because THAT did NOT sound like fun at all! 9 moons came and went but it looks like your little sweets is right on time!

Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby girl! Praying that you have a time of blessed healing and bonding with this new life! How precious to give her the name of your MIL. Greg and Sono have blessed us so many times in our 23 years of homeschooling with Greg’s book, Sono’s tapes on Mary and Martha and the exercise tape as well. Now we are enjoying the words of their sons. What a great heritage to be born with! May you enjoy sweet times of refreshing with your little family!
