(Quick reminder, don’t forget about our Nourishing Sweet and Treats Carnival this upcoming Tuesday! Frugal Friday reader’s I welcome you to join in on the sweet fun as well. )

Next week I hope to share some nourishing food gift ideas, but today I bring to you a wonderful frugal, health friendly gift (or wish list) idea, with a give away as well!

It can be challenging to find gifts that are health friendly without spending a lot. It’s one of those facts of life, you know, you get what you pay for (most of the time!). However, sometimes there are more frugal options for high quality products, and I am so thrilled to share one of those options with you today. Today, we will be looking at the products from a new company, started by a mom frustrated with the high prices of good quality stainless steel products. She sells some beautiful stainless steel products for a more frugal price.

Yes, that’s right. Stainless steel and frugal were in the same sentence together.

I have long been interested in expanding my repertoire of stainless steel containers as there are so many dangers to plastics. I use glass items frequently, and they do work just fine for most things. Unfortunately glass can break, and I have broken my full share of glass items.

Last year I bought my husband a Kleen Kanteen water bottle for his birthday (how romantic! *wink*), which he has been using everyday and loves. But the high price has prevented us from buying more.

Well, The Tickle Trunk, offers stainless steel water bottles, that are made from the same manufacturer as Kleen Kanteen, boasting the same high quality product at a much cheaper cost. For example, they sell this 18 ounce bottle, for 11 dollars.
And the 40 ounce water bottle is only 13 dollars!

They also have these pretty 12 ounce ones that are also just 11 dollars (they are similar to the Sigg water bottles, without the aluminium and plastic lining!).

Follow my example and give one as a gift to a spouse, and they will get everyday use out out of it (instead of the unused scented soap, or tie).

They also have numerous food storage, food grade, stainless steel containers (to replace those yucky plastic things we usually use). And because they are stainless steel you can go directly from freezer to oven. Unlike plastic, which can freeze but not heat, and glass which must be treated delicately when frozen and warmed. The other great feature is that you can write on the top of them with a non-permanent marker to specify what’s in it. I am definitely adding this to my wish list!

For example, this 18.3 x 9 x 6 cm stainless steel food storage container is only five dollars! (Isn’t it pretty? Stainless steel has such a nice shine).

And look at these wonderful food containers.

These have a silicon seal, so they are airtight, come in a variety of sizes (1 cup to 6 cups), and can also be written on with a non-permanent marker for labeling purposes, priced 9 to 13 dollars (do you all know what a great deal that is?).

Finally, they have some wonderful lunch pail options. With Joel going to college, I had actually looked at these a while back from another source, but they were just a little beyond our means. Not only that, but they were generally made from aluminium. Made with cheap material and expensive? I don’t think so.

Not so from these beauties!

This beautiful food storage container is double walled, so it keeps your food cold or hot for hours, it also has that nice tray so that you can keep your food separate (think sandwich on top, green salad on the bottom, or meat and veggies on top, rice on the bottom, that sort of thing). And at 7 dollars, it’s a great deal too.

At the very top of the page, you will see their super duper, three layer large lunch pail, also double walled, which will keep a hungry man (or woman) well feed, and it’s only 20 dollars! Those cheap aluminium ones that were only two layers were thirty dollars in the stores.

Finally, we come to our give away item. The owner let me know that this is one of their most popular items. I can see why.

Here’s their description of it,

“One of our most popular snack/lunch containers! This two layer lunch box is perfect for lunch. A sandwich on the bottom, sliced apples on top. You can also write on the container with a non-permanent marker. This helps to specify the contents, date and owner. It measures 15.9 x 11.3 x 6.2 cm, it is made from #430 food grade stainless steel, and has a removable handle”

This would make a wonderful little lunch container for children taking fruit and sandwiches to school, or on outings. (or for a grown up, for that matter!). Just note that this one is not double walled. It’s not illegal to win my own give away, is it? (Just kidding).

Awww…..it’s so cute.

To enter the give away:

Go to The Tickle Trunk, and browse around. Then come back here and leave a comment answering one (or, even better, both) of these questions and leave your email address.

1-Which item did you like the best?
2-What type of stainless steel item would you love to have, that’s not already on the site?

Also make sure that you qualify by reading her shipping information (Canada and US shipping).

I will be closing comments next Friday and drawing our winner, so check back to see if you won!

Finally, keep watching this site as she will soon have stainless steel ice cube trays and stainless steel Popsicle makers, as well as cups and glasses! I hope that we can all support this lady and mother, because she is doing a noble work in bringing these great products to us at a great price.

Thanks, Stephanie, for letting us know about this wonderful company! This post is part of Frugal Friday.

This looks like a great company! 🙂
I love the little food storage containers: http://thetickletrunk.com/products.php?id=201&name=Food_Storage_Container_2

I would really like to find a stainless steel muffin tin someday. 🙂

I am so excited about this website! I think the 27 oz bottle is my favorite. But then, the food storage containers would be so handy.

I would love to see some stainless steel, child size forks! It would be great to buy a bunch of kid friendly forks that are made from good material.

I expect to be shopping there a bunch 🙂

Thanks for sharing this site. I am going to be passing it along to my husband as a Christmas idea. He always waits until the last minute!

I loved the 1.5 L round storage container. Sadly most of my storage container are plastic although I am slowly replacing it with glass. It’s great to have another option.

As for products I would like to see them carry, what about spice jars? Spices optimally are stored away from light so the stainless steel would be a good option.

As a side note, have you done any research on silicon? Like all the silicon baking mats, muffin tins, etc. I got some of the pan liners a couple of years ago. They are wonderful for making cookies, but now I am curious whether or not they are safe.

These are AWESOME! I’ve been looking for something like this; I want to get rid of all my Gladware and Tupperware.

1-Which item did you like the best?

I like everything but I love the lunch box the best.

2-What type of stainless steel item would you love to have, that’s not already on the site?

Well I noticed they have an ice cube tray coming out soon. I always freeze my chicken stock in ice cube trays — I would LOVE to have stainless steel and ditch my plastic.

I would also love to see some travel mugs for coffee.

I think I like the round double-walled food containers. I’ve been using glass to store food in the fridge, and recently had an avalanche of leftovers fall onto the tile floor and smash! (the popsicle molds are genius, too)

What would I like to see? Divided food storage. You know those old tupperware plates they had when we were kids (they probably still do)? A plate with 3 sections, and when the lid was on the 3 sections were sealed. For some reason my husband and children seem incapable of opening more than one or two containers at lunch. A single lid on a divided container would rock.

Oh, Michele, you’re right – baking! Muffin tin. Yeah.

    Great site, thanks.

oh Kimi….thanks for doing this post…you are a woman after my own heart….I try to do only stainless steal and glass and stay away from plastic and other things…it is a big joke around here with my husband and children…b/c we have had to learn to be creative with sending lunches with my husband…at present it has been a glass container…which of course is not the safest…we had looked at so many stainless steal water bottles for him but they were all so expensive….so I am glad to find one that is not so pricey…I carry a big canning jar for my water in my baby bag…people always asks me why I have that and not a plastic container…smiles…

You are a woman after my own heart. I think we might have been separated at birth!! No, maybe a kindred spirit then. I’ve been looking for a way to get rid of all that plastic. I really do hate it! I had no idea they could be so affordable.

I love the Tiffen lunch box too! That would be great for my hubby. And I love to send one of those to school with my kids, too. I don’t know what other product I would ask to carry, I haven’t look around at stuff else where to know what’s out there. But it would be great if she sold a combo pack. Maybe 3 different size containers with lids for a slightly reduced cost.

    I hope I win

I just purchased three sets of stainless storage containers from Sams. We have a large family and cook in large quantities. I LOVE these containers. And, my children can’t break them like they do glass!

I could use any or all of it! The Stainless Ice Cube Trays would work wonderfully for freezing our raw goat milk for Vita-Mix soft served ice cream or fruit smoothies.

The lunch containers would be perfect for sending out with the guys for their work lunches at the job.

The water bottles would be wonderful. There’s 11 of us so purchasing one for all of us is cost prohibitive to our budget right now.

The stainless cups would be perfect for the little ones in our family.

I would love to see stainless muffin tins or cookie sheets. Or as another said, a very large stainless container for storing a large family portion of soup.

I’d love to win this drawing!

What a cool site! I agree completely with the stainless steel over plastic idea. Using plastic just feels kind of icky to me, and it’s everywhere.

I LOVE the blue 12 oz. water bottle, along with the lunchbox-style container that’s being given away. I’d love to see thermoses though; I’m big on tea and coffee, and wold love a really great stainless-steel thermos.

What a find!! Thanks so much for sharing this site. The prices are really good too. I am a senior and have broken half of my drinking glasses due to not being able to hold onto things as well as I used to. I am looking forward to the glasses when they come out. We used to use aluminum glasses when I was young but I am concerned about the connection with that and possible health risks.
My favorites are the storage pieces which I am going to purchase when they become available again. Also going to give some of the pieces as gifts as they would last such a long time.

I love this site! Thank you so much for spreading the word…I will pass it on as well. I am especially excited that she has air-tight containers for liquids and will soon have the ice cube trays and popsicle molds!!!

OK, here goes with the questions:

1- I think my favorite is the double-walled container (SC01) since it can keep my child’s lunch warm (or cold) until lunch. Neither one has ever had warm food for lunch on school days because I don’t want their food microwaved…this would be great!!

2- besides the ice cube trays and popsicle molds they are working on, I’d also love to see a small, water-tight container for dip or dressing (about 1/4 c)…maybe a S/S cup with a tight plastic lid if it can’t be done with S/S only that small. I need something like this to include inside of our S/S lunch containers.

    Thanks!!

I honestly think when one has an epiphany of what is best for your family, I think that person deserves a wake up shower! So they can get rid of all the bad stuff in their kitchen LOL.

This just week all plastic cups in my home went out and were replaced glass.

I love the 40oz water bottle, because I try to drink lots of water each day and it’s hard to lug around a large glass jar. Sigg bottles are usually 16 oz at the most, and those cost about $25!! I would totally hers! It’s way less!

I absolutely LOVE the ice cube trays that are upcoming. It’s bothered me a long time- putting my purified water in plastic trays. The old fashion type are hard to find. I’d also like to see some good strainers/drainers. Kefir can tolerate only SS or plastic, and because typical SS are so expensive, I have plastic. I love all the containers, but especially the bowl-like food containers. Probably the ice trays are my second fave. There are few of who use ice trays any more. 😉

(I recently found your site and really enjoy it. I am gluten free so I can’t do all of your recipes, but most I can use or at least adapt. I don’t think I’ve posted yet. Congrats on your pregnancy! I love the name Elana. That’s the name of another one of my favorite bloggers, Elana at elanaspantry.com.)

I found something interesting…the Safe Sippy…It’s a stainless steel sippy cup, with a plastic sippy lid. You can find it at http://www.thesafesippy.com
