I love beautiful and simple food that is nourishing to the body and the soul. sweet potatoes are not only frugal in price, but since they are more palatable than other veggies, the kids actually eat a larger portion putting more nutrients in their belly! this is the recipe that got me eating sweet potatoes. i hated them as a kid (and adult…)

I’ve been fighting “Kitchen Combat Fatigue” again – realizing I spend upwards of 6 hours in the kitchen on a normal day! I just posted some tips and ideas for making that time more productive and less overwhelming.

I try to buy bulk when ever possible. We have about 5ish ladies who eat the way I do and we try to let eachother know when we are making a purchase so that others can too. I also order from a coop, that helps a lot. We have amish around me and local producers and I try to check with them first. If you get there at the right time( gotta do your homework to figure that out,end of day, week, season maybe) they will pratically give stuff away and you can freeze or can it. I just got about 10 spaggetti squash for 5$ because nobody want them anymore. I may have to go out of my way alittle some times but if you support real local people and develop relationships that really goes along way in the long run. Gets me a lot further than being a loyal customer to wal mart, they dot care who you are.

Hi,
sorry so late- I came here today looking for this post but couldn’t find it? Just got it delivered to my inbox so here I am sharing about Sourdough English muffins & yummy homemade sausage egg “McMuffins”- even with “real food” you can still make it cheaper than the big M would charge you – and the health benefits of making it yourself are priceless! 🙂
