It’s time to share your frugal and nourishing tips and recipes! Where do you shop for quality food at a lower price? What recipe saves a penny? How do you balance a budget with nourishing food? Share here.

Please read through the three simple rules for those participating. This helps keep the quality of our carnival. Please read them through before linking and thanks again for your continued participation.

1) No linking to giveaways or promotions for affiliates or sponsors. One thing that I’ve noticed increasingly on Pennywise Platter is that I am getting more and more promotional pieces for affiliates or sponsors and a lot of giveaways. I’ve decided to keep Pennywise less “commercial” and more in tune with the spirit of the carnival by not allowing these links anymore. There was nothing wrong with those of you who linked to them, I just think that it will protect the integrity of our carnival better without them. Plus, it makes our links valuable in the future as well. A link to a giveaway three months old isn’t going to be worth browsing in three months time, but a link to a recipe for a frugal soup would be. I will be deleting any giveaway links or promotional links.

2) Keep the ingredients “nourishing”, such as whole grains, meats, vegetables, legumes, unrefined salt and sugars, chicken, etc. I am not going to be an ingredient police every week, but if there is a link to a post that is obviously not filling any of the criteria for healthy (for example, a white flour, white sugar birthday cake), I will delete that link. However, feel free to post vegetarian, vegan, raw, low-carb, etc.

3) Link back to the carnival This is common carnival courtesy. And more then that, it helps build the community of the carnival as you are sending your readers to others participating. And please, as a blogger, check out other’s posts and leave a comment! I know that we would all love to hear from each other.

Happy holidays everyone 🙂 I’m sharing what has become a classic in my house, cream cheese chicken liver pate. Believe it or not, people even request that I make it now. And it always warms my heart to see my loved ones eating liver. The cream cheese and onions in this recipe really moderate that liver-y-ness that people find so disagreeable.

today’s linkup is brussels sprouts with brown butter. Seriously, you’d think there was sugar in there but there’s not!

Butterpowered, I would love to try some “good” pate one of these days. I’ve had it by accident, wrapped in bacon at a fundraiser, and it was awful.

Today I’m sharing what has been a favorite in our house for some time. And as a mama to 5, with one being just a wee babe at a week old, it has proven to be a handy, healthy, quick snack to munch on while nursing, or anytime! And, it has a natural sweetness my kiddos love. Hope your family enjoys them, too!

I’m sharing some ideas for Edible Homemade Presents. I have everything from Lacto-fermented carrot sticks, eggnog, and of course cookies! This not only saves money but everyone LOVES receiving something they can eat.

Hi Kimi! I’m a longtime, though hitherto silent, reader, and many of your recipes have found their way into my repertoire. I’ve just started my own blog, hoping to help my fellow college students cook and eat nourishing food. This is my very first recipe: mushroom curry. Thank you!

Hi! Inspired by butterpoweredbike, I went on a foraging expedition around my non rural neighborhood. I posted about how you too can forage, even if you think there’s nothing edible growing nearby.

    Hi Kimi,
    Thanks for hosting!
This week posting my go-to last minute butter sauce I make for dipping artichokes in or pouring over salmon. It’s great for weeknight hectic dinners, once the butter melts the sauce is ready!
Plus I included all the health benefits of butter – a real superfood.

This is a pretty cheap eat – and quite norishing. I suggest watching some good ol’ asian style carving of chicken to inspire the deboning part. This was a really fun recipe to do. The rice itself was tasty! Thanks again for hosting this. It’s fun to see so many great ideas.

Does anyone happen to have a carrot souffle recipe that is gluten-free and uses a sweetener other than refined sugar?

I’ve been craving it for weeks and can’t find a recipe that will accomodate my son’s gluten allergy.
