In a plastic world, it can be quite difficult to find non-plastic alternatives. Many of us have become aware of the dangers, but find it hard to avoid. One mother is making a difference by bringing us stainless steel alternatives at The Tickle Trunk! Today, we will be giving away one of her products, a stainless steel ice cube tray, to one lucky commenter.
Let me tell you how I liked the one she gave me to review. I found it easy to use and beautiful as well. For easy removal, just don’t fill it up too high. If you do happen to fill it too high and find it hard to get the ice out, a simple run of hot water on the bottom side of the ice cube tray it will make it a cinch to use. (At least that’s what worked for me!).
Uses for this Ice Cube Tray
*Making ice cubes (no, really?)
*Freezing chicken broth cubes from homemade broth
*Freezing homemade baby food
*Making homemade “Mounds” Candy Bars

I would love this for summer frozen treats!
Shannon
Oooh! I’ve been wanting one of these to make frozen juice treats this summer!
Thanks for the chance!

I see there is going to be alot of competition for that ice cube tray. 😉 I will be very happy for the winner, whoever she may be! (Of course, I hope it will be me.)
We’ve eliminated much of our plastic in the kitchen, except the ice cube trays. I just saw these the other day and they went right on my wish list! So count me in, please.
I already follow you on twitter.

Had some metal ice trays when I was a kid—-not sure what ever happened to them.
Meghan (Making Love In The Kitchen)
Live alone and cook a lot. I use ice cube trays to freeze single servings of sauces and pestos. Love this one!

This is a great find. I really want one!! I just had baby number 4 (he is 5 1/2 weeks old) and could really use this for baby food, as well as for freezing broth in small portions (which is so handy when I want a small amount for a recipe). I can think of lots of things to do with it!
I started following you on twitter too.

Well, I don’t have an ice cube tray ~~ because the refrig makes them on it’s own. But you can’t do the things with that like you can with an actual ice cube tray — and that’s why I want one.
Pamela
The Stainless steel ice tray would be great to freeze nutrient dense veggie/meat broths…cubes for the extra bit of flavor you need to add to a recipe!
I already follow you on Twitter.
Pampered Mom
Why would I want one? Hmmmm…let me count the ways! :0) Too many ways I think to mention, but a big ditto on all of the ones already given.
Alisse
Oh lovely! I’d store beef stock, and sweets, I suppose!

Freezing fruit puree, and homemade broth,
tomato paste, and applesauce;
Making juicy cubes and ice cubes, too,
for me and him and all the ‘crew’!
While I think about my childhood days,
when we dumped the ice from the ice cube trays!

I have kids who like to help but end up breaking things… metal might last longer than icky plastic.
Megan
How fun! I’d love one of these! And I love your blog by the way, it always gives me something new to think about.
Chiot's Run
I was just telling Mr Chiot’s the other day that I needed to find stainless stell ice cube trays. I’ll be buying some of these for sure!

Thank you so much for this opportunity. I hope I’m not too late! We began a TF lifestyle in January, & I’ve been working on getting plastics OUT! We’re switching to glass- & SS- ware. It’s been a long road as there is just.so.much.plastic! This would be a welcome addition to my kitchen!
Leesie
Sweet offer! I have Tickle Trunk’s stainless steel water bottles and love ’em!
I’m SeasLife on Twitter and I’m following you now (what a pretty Twitter picture!-say that 3x fast! lol)
Thanks Kimi!

I would love a stainless steel ice cube tray. We are moving away from plastic as the budget allows. My husband loves lots of ice in all his drinks. He would be thrilled to know I could always have ice in the freezer. Thank you so much for having this giveaway. I have learned so much from your blog.

I’d love to win these! What a great (old!) idea. Thanks for the contest. (If I win, does it come with the recipe ;-))
Jennifer K
I would absolutely love to have one of these trays. We puree a lot of veggies and freeze them conveniently in our (gasp! plastic) ice cube trays (as well as other things) and we are trying to get rid of plastic. I’ve invested in the water bottles but have not taken the leap to ice cube trays! These are so cool!!!
Melissa
My parents used to have these! I recently threw out my plastic and use glass cups, bowls, etc. I’d love to use these for my bone broth. I love your website!
serina
would love to ditch the plastic ice cube trays. great giveaway!
Jess
I would looove to have this for freezing all the homemade soups and sauces I make, as well as yummy fruit juice ice cubes to use in drinks!
michellega
These trays are such a throw back to my childhood. My mom would always make a nice little veggie cocktail drink for my dad after work I would pull the lever. I’ve been on SCDiet for 3 years and I am so happy to have found your site – so many recipes are grainfree/sugar free. I’ve been passing along your website to fellow SCDers. Love those lemon bars.
I love you and your efforts ! Thank you so much.
Kara
I’d love to win this. It would be great to make frozen cubes of lightly steamed pureed spinach to stick in our green smoothies!
Katie
Oh I would love have that tray. We have eliminated the plastic cups my kids use to drink from and also the plates. It would be nice to make ice in something that is not going to leave behind nasty plastic toxins! Plus my Grandma could take a trip down memory lane anytime she gets ice out of my freezer ( which happens now and then ) !
Sweetpeas
When we moved here a year ago & found the fridge didn’t have an ice maker, I searched high & low for stainless steel ice trays, but could only find plastic or aluminum. I’d love to replace the plastic ones I ended up getting!
Kelli
I would like one of these, and the popsicle molds.
Rayelle
I have been wanting an ice cube tray like this since my son started eating solids! We are trying to get as plastic free as possible but as a one-income family we can’t always make that goal first priority. This would be such a help!
Tasha
I love the tray! We made all our baby food with #1 and of course are going to do the same with #2 but it would be really nice to not have to use the plastic trays again!
M. Henderson
Please! With my mom’s cancer diagnosis last Easter came a RADICAL shift in the way we approach health and nutrition. I would love an opportunity to cut plastic out in the freezer! I thought we were the only people left not using an ice-maker. . . guess I was wrong! 🙂 Thank you for the great giveaway!

Our plastic ice trays are starting to crack up. It’s time to replace them… I’ve been wanting to get stainless steel ice trays for almost 2 years, but needed to wait till it was a “need”, not a “want” :o) Now I really NEED stainless steel ice trays.
I am now following you on twitter… tweet tweet.
Katie @ Kitchen Stewardship
I make broth cubes and other food cubes and would love to avoid plastic. Thanks!
Elena
I would love to have this tray. I have got rid of everything plastic in my kitchen 🙂
Heidi Graves
This totally reminds me of the kind we had when I was a kid!!! I would love to get some to make little Joe’s baby food with when he’s ready!! How cool!!
Linda Stiles
I would freeze homemade ice creams and smoothies in the ice cube maker. I too am trying to get rid of plastics. I hope I win. 🙂 We could use this with this hot weather! Thanks. 🙂
Teddy Bear
My Mommy hates all things plastic so I know she would love this!
January
These are so great. Any way to lessen our dependence on plastic is great!
Girl Gone Domestic
I SO need one of these, had an icemaker, it broke. 90 degree weather…in need of ice!
Girl Gone Domestic
Now following you on twitter…tweet ya later.
Jen
Like many people here, I’m working hard to eliminate plastic in my kitchen. This is one of the few holdouts. 🙂 I would use it for mostly for ice and freezing homemade broth. Thanks for the opportunity!
Corry
Would be stoked to freeze broth – and now I want to try the mounds recipe, too!
Peggy
OH how exciting! I used to use the aluminum ones until we discovered how bad they are for you. We’ve used plastic for years but have wanted to move away from it. We have mostly teenagers so baby food is no longer an issue. However we do freeze copious amounts of pesto and eggs each summer when the production is high!
I follow you on here but not Twitter… If it is cell phone related we have minimal coverage.
Thanks for offering this giveaway!!!
Jeanelle
ok i’m thinking of all the wonderful uses for it other than just ice cubes – making choc bites, mini banana icecreams, jelly cubes and can you bake in it?! you could make mini everything!!! I’d also like to try peppermint tea and honey cubes.
Kathryn
I grew up with the aluminum kind … ick! Stainless is the way to go. Thanks for the giveaway.
Laura Green
I would love to win one of those ice cube trays. I discovered your site while living overseas and am returning to the states in July. We are eating a mostly Mediterranean diet now and would like to incorporate even more nourishing practices into our daily eating habits. Thanks for the contest.
