I hope that Beth is enjoying her prize from the giveaway we did with US Wellness Meats last year. I know that I am not the only one who envied her just a little for all of that grass fed meat she won. But for those of who haven’t yet, you still have time to use the 15% coupon with US Wellness Meats!

Because of Christmas and taxes and all sorts of different draws on our money, I haven’t been able to make use of it myself, but it’s only good until the 31st of this month, so I am ordering this week myself. I mean, come on, I can’t miss out on getting 15% off!

Because I am able to get grass fed meat from a local farmer, I don’t have a lot of needs. But there is still plenty that they carry that I want to buy! Like their beef tallow and sausages made with organs (so good for you and they actually taste good too!).  This is a great opportunity to get some nutrient dense foods for less, so take advantage of the coupon if you can!

Here’s the coupon, just make sure that you don’t have on a ad blocker (it can block the link).

    Hi KC,

I am sorry to hear that you reacted to something in the sausages. It appears that there has been some misunderstanding somewhere in regard to the antibacterial use at US Wellness Meats (I am part of an email conversation with them today). I will let you know what I find out.

Meanwhile, I wanted to also say that I know how hard it is when you react to a lot of foods. I have a friend and a brother-in-law who have had issues with everything from pastured local chickens to garlic. So I know what a drag that is. Hang in there!

Actually, I reacted to the GMO corn spray that they used on the carcass, specifically in the ground beef. There is no misunderstanding since I have three corn allergic individuals in my family and all three of us reacted immediately and violently. John Wood admitted to me in an email that it was the lactic acid (GMO corn derivative) used in processing, although it seems that he is telling everyone else that he is not sure what could have caused my reaction. I didn’t email him to see if there was some kind of corn in the ground beef, I was already sure that there was. I emailed to find out where the corn came into the picture and if there were any products that were corn-free. I have the emails (there were several back and forth) if you would like to see them. I have already forwarded them to Kelly the Kitchen Kop at her request.

To anyone reading this conversation, KC did send me her emails from John and I have been really impressed with how he had handled the situation- trying to track down what could be making her react, offering suggestions on where she could find meat that she won’t react to, etc. You don’t get this kind of customer service and care from many businesses! They have finally been able to find the exact solution used in the slaughterhouse and Ann Marie from cheeseslave.com is tracking down the ingredients to it.

I just placed an order with US Wellness Meats — 10 pounds of liverwurst and Braunschwieger.

I have contacted Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and Jeffrey Smith, author of “Seeds of Deception” and the world’s leading expert on GMOs, as well as several others including Mark Kastel of the Cornucopia Institute, and a few grassfed beef ranchers, meat processors/butchers, and an animal veterinarian.

Based on the information I received, I am confident that US Wellness Meats products are absolutely safe to eat. I feel sorry for someone who is so highly allergic. People are allergic to all kinds of things — even healthy things like raw milk and sprouted flour. I even read about a woman who was so allergic to iodine that she could not drive within 10 miles of the ocean without an epi-pen because she would go into anaphylactic shock.

Some people are allergic and I feel sorry for them. But that doesn’t mean that a particular product is bad for the rest of us.

I think it is very misleading to make a claim like the one that has been made, particularly the notion about this meat being contaminated with GMOs.

I will be publishing all the info I have, including detailed information about the lactic acid spray, and statements from the individuals I listed above, in a post on my blog in the next day or two.

    Ann Marie
